I am no longer going to buy anymore DVDs until the studios have released a final special collectors ultimate directors cut definative edition DVDs

Guess whats soon to be re-released?

Hitting shelves on September 9th is a new 20th Anniversary Edition of the Brian de Palma bloodfest Scarface, starring Al Pacino as the legendary Tony Montana.

And due on August 26th is (no joke) National Lampoon`s Animal House: Double Secret Probation Edition. Both get anamorphic widescreen transfers and new Dolby Digital 5.1 remixes, and stay tuned for further specs...

W***ERS!!!!

you have every right to be p***ed off as am I with various things like the New T2 extreme edition, Starship Troopers Superbit edition etc etc.
Thing is technology allows things to improve substantially and sooner or later, something better is going to come along. I have had up to upgrade starship troopers twice to my current 2 disc SE, dances with wolves, robin hood, lord of the rings. It does p*** me off but I dont have much trouble flogging the old versions on ebay for a reasonable price. Times change, things get better.
I was watching Journey to the center of the earth on dvd today and it had this great extra that showed a split screen comparison of all the available prints of the movie throughout the year. Obviously the original was terrible but it was remastered in 1995 for video and it looked a lot better. Then came a later video print and then the laserdisc and then the present version. There was a great deal of difference and no doubt there will in a few years be a much better and improved version of this movie. This fact does not deter me as this will be a good thing.
In the cases of animal house, scarface and even robin hood, there have only been one previous edition and the time gap is of atleast 2-3 years? which is acceptable. In the case of starship troopers, there has been the flipper, the single disc, the 2 disc edition and now the superbit version. This is just taking the p*** as they are roughly releasing one version a year, which is absurd.

Floyd i totally agree but if i want a newer version of a film i just put it on ebay where a lot of my dvds have recouped about 80% of their value back, some i have even made a profit on!!. Anyway now i have seen your thread looks like scarface is going on ebay so i can replace it with the newer version, cant wait, awesome film which deserves a good dvd release.

No but why you should you have an inferior product for the same price?

One week you have DVD "x". Next week the buggers release DVD "x" +1. I mean, if they plan to help the nation save money, its a great way of doing it - hold on to your cash for a little while longer.

Anger building even more!!!

Whilst admiring my complete collection of Friday the 13ths.

GUESS F***ING WHAT!!!

From a DVD website:-

In other Paramount news, fans of that big guy in a hockey mask have been clamoring for special edition reissues of the Friday the 13th series for some time now, so we talked with Paramount Home Entertainment`s head of publicity Martin Blythe, who had some good news for fans of the sultan of summer camp slaughter.

Holding distribution rights to the first eight films in the never-ending series, Paramount is currently in the beginning stages of planning new reissues of the Friday flicks.

Although due to the very limited availability of archival materials, just what form such a release would take, such as a box set, remains formative.

There is also no word on whether uncut versions of the films, which have always been the most sought after by fans of the series, will be possible to include. As for a release date, a late 2004 arrival is hoped for. Watch this space!

Where`s that Machette- I`m off to pay Paramount a visit.

Try taking the old version back to the shop and exchanging it for the new one [as youve paid once for the film and should not have to pay again just because the film company have found?, some new footage that really should have been on the first release].
The words rip off spring to mind.
You could just not buy the dvd and wait a number of months/years and buy the "definitive" release if there is such a thing but no doubt the film companies will be still discovering unseen documentaries, outtakes etc.
Music CDs dont seem to suffer this problem [Oh no ive given someone an idea!] there is usually the original release, a remaster release and sometimes a rip off uk release with a couple of extra reject b sides/remixes.
How about a new cover release, the definitive boxed cover release, gatefold cover release, the release missing all of side two of the original copy release.
And the list goes on.
