Page 1 of Who`s bought a film for the packaging....?

Title says it all really......

I have been guilty of this in the past - mainly when I`ve won vouchers from work - some of my faves must be:

T2 Ultimate Edition (tin)
Once Upon a Time in the West (What a bit of packaging!)
Fight Club
True Romace - Uncut Directors Cut Collectors Edition

.....all of the above I would have bought anyway - but sometimes the cheaper editions!

The one that is really tickling my fancy at the moment is the Battlestar Galactica boxset with the Cylon helmet on - does anyone know if the red eye moves from side to side??

There are others in my collection but I`d like to know what others people have.....or is it just me that likes funky boxes??

There`s always the latex `skin` of the Evil Dead as well - stank my lounge out for a week or so before either I got used to it, or it died down a little (no pun intended).

My collection

I have never seen the following films before, but was sold on the packaging.

Iron Giant - great packaging- great film

Donnie Darko, intriged by the cover, - s***e pure s***e movie- no matter what anybody says it is 100% s***e

Ring- great concept- but contridicts itself big time.

Memento- same, great concept, but it relied on you suspending your disbelief when the conclusion finally revealed itself.

Fight Club- same as above.

Eight Legged Freaks- did what it said on the package, just an entertaining movie to while the way the time.

My DVD Collection

Ok, Ok........I still haven`t made up my mind on Donnie. Although I must admit to buying this one on the strength of every review saying wonderful things about it and I hated it first time round but it`s one of those that my brain keeps telling me to watch again as it`s the kind of film I`d like if given the time.......so I will give it a Christmas viewing I think.

But, guys, back to the question in hand.......especially you Chewie - you simply must have some quality Star Wars cases etc....

I want to know what to ask for for Christmas!! :D :D

To be honest I`m not bothered about the packaging. I prefer Amaray over Digi-packs, which says a lot for my love of cover-art ;)

And Star Wars, I have many VHS collections, a few of the originals, a couple Special Edition Boxsets, an official VCD boxset and some, *ahem* 5 Star Collection DVD`s. I don`t have the Executor Boxset.

I only buy a film for the film, never because of the packaging. Although DVDs that have, in my opinion, impressive packaging are:

T2 Ultimate Edition. It comes in a nice shiny metal tin, and looks ace :D

Indiana Jones Boxset. Ok, it`s nothing fancy but this is how boxsets should be presented - 4 Amaray cases in a big cardboard case. Looks good and will last forever, rather than these digipacks which will, no matter how well you look after them, eventually show signs of wear and tear (although none of my digipacks are doing this yet, but it is inevitable given that they are only cardboard).

So give me my films in Amaray boxes and I`ll be happy (and the shelf will look better as well) :)

I deliberately bought the R1 Usual Suspects as they orange cover is much cooler than the R2.

How can you be a fan and NOT have the executor box set?!!??!

It really is a true collectors edition and I hope the dvd extras include all the goodies in that lovely tin.

"Evil Dead" book of Nechronomicon is great, and as mentioned a little on the smelly side.
