Page 1 of Problem DVDs

Does anyone know of problems with The World Is Not Enough?
The first copy played for about 30 mins then the picture garbled with lots of multicoloured boxes then played with occasional garble and sound 3 secs out of sync.
I returned it to Smiths and the new one plays for about 15 mins then it totally garble with good sound.
Is there a problem with this film like there is apparently with Gladiator and The Matrix? Or is it my cheap crap DVD player?
BTW The Matrix plays OK, I borrowed it.

You don`t tell us what your cheap crap DVD player is - i.e. model and make. TWINE works on most machines except a couple of Panasonic models and the LG2330, but they don`t exhibit the problems you`ve described. Have you tried cleaning the disk itself with a soft cloth (wiping centre to edge only, not round and round), as fingerprints on the disk surface can cause pixellation.

Sorry, yeah Schneider DVD511 (also known as Oritron and sold in Currys).
Shall try cleaning the disk but both of them have been brand new and look brand new and shiny.

Aha! Interesting! I got caught by the Asda Bargain last year (the Schneider 810 which turned out to be a Matsui 110 rebadge and a bag of s***e as well). Funnily enough, I was admiring that machine myself last week and wondering if it was any good.

Does it play R1`s with any luck? Fortunately, Asda take these critters back with no quibbles, so find your till receipt and take it back post haste and play merry hell with the greeter (tell them it makes grinding noises, stutters and all kinds of crap and you want a refund), then get yourself round to a Currys or a Dixons and buy yourself a machine in the £160-200 category, preferably with an extended warranty. That was how I got my Grundig210A, which I`d never part with, which plays all but real problem disks and even RCE disks.

You may get more features with more expensive machines, but frequently you`re paying for a name like Sony or Panasonic, and Sony machines are the ones RCE was aimed at.

If you`re trying to keep your costs down, get it on 9 months interest free credit. The trick with that is to post the credit bank a cheque (the details are in the agreement) once a month that make the direct debit amount up to 1/9th the cost. That way you budget for nine equal payments, rather than the way they try to trap you by paying nine piddling instalments and still having say £150 to pay off at the end of the interest-free period.

Am fancying a LG 3200E or Samsung DVD511.
The 3rd copy of World Is Not Enuff from WH Smith works fine with no problems whatsoever on my nasty Schneider. Still getting different machine though...

I like the sound of the LG 3200E, especially if (like it does at Blockbusters) it comes with a 5yr warranty and a few goodies.

Comet`s online outlet (Comet.co.uk) have the legendary Aiwa 370 for £199.99, and I think they throw in 3 DVD titles as well.

I had the exact same problem with TWINE about the time bond gets out the chopper with Electra on the slopes but it was fine when I played it the second time round.
Incidentally, I saw the LG3200E advertised in the paper recently for £199.99 with 20 free DVD`s. Seemed like a good deal though I can`t remember what paper or what retailer. The only thing I remember about it is that it was endorsed by Jeremy Beadle, which somewhat put me off.

This is weird as I also just today had the same problem with The World Is Not Enough on the Proline 2000 and exactly the same place as SirPsychoSexy reported - 32 minutes into the film when they get out of the chopper which is just after the layer change. Corrected itself at first but have problems 44 minutes into the film and so far cannot correct that.
Have had this DVD since Christmas and have had no problems with it up until today yet three of us have experienced the same problem.

Got a multi region samsung 709 with macro-vision disabled and it won`t play plunkett and macleane right thorough. Around the 45 min. mark it just stops and won`t chapter skip fast forward or rewind. I have no idea what`s causing this and have never heard of it before the disk works fine on mates machines. Any help would be much appreciated. Cheers.
