Problems with Sky reception recently?

Snaps (Elite) posted this on Saturday, 12th March 2005, 07:45

Anyone else having problems with the picture freezing and the whole thing locking up?
Usually happens when selecting a channel but happened in the middle of watching something last night. It`s been constant for the last couple of nights.

Sounds like my box needs a boot of some sort.

By reboot do you mean a simple turn off at mains or something more severe?

Sometimes the freezing problem relates to weather problems. High winds particularly gusting winds can cause it to pixelate and then freeze.

Might be worth checking if your satellite has come slightly loose in the recent windy weather. (ours was fixed by tightening the fixings of the staellite to the wall)

Don`t know how to do a reboot, a sky engineer reset our software for us.

The `digital reboot procedure` as Sky call it is to take the Viewing Card out then plug out of the mains for about a minute then plug back in and wait another minute for the box to reboot fully. When you power on it should be on channel 998. This always works for me.
