Couple of film related questions...

Ben Franklin (Reviewer) posted this on Saturday, 12th March 2005, 22:37

My dad asked me these questions, and I couldn`t give definitive answers....

Can anyone think of a film title, that doesn`t actually relate to the film? Off the top of my head, I thought of Reservoir Dogs. But then I`m pretty sure that`s not one.

Secondly, in Fahrenheit 9/11, what does the Fahrenheit bit refer to? Is it to do with the fire fighters?

Any help appreciated. :D

Taken from IMDB:

Quote:
The title for the film comes from a combination of two other movies. Tarantino, not very good at speaking French, always referred to Au Revoir Les Enfants (1987) simply as "that Reservoir movie". He also is a big Sam Peckinpah fan, and likes his film Straw Dogs (1971). So he combined the two titles to get "Reservoir Dogs".

So no, nothing much to do with the film really...

Never quite understood Tears Of The Sun... though I`m sure there`s some deep philosophical meaning behind it.

Also, The World Is Not Enough... apart from a single line in the film, it bears no relation to the plot. Same goes for a few Bond titles as well I think.

Farenheit 9/11 is a play on words, relating to the title of a Ray Bradbury novel, Farenheit 451. Bradbury was not impressed as Moore didn`t ask permission.

I assume the title is memorable because of the reference, and also (i assume again) it`s a reference to the events of 9/11 being a `boiling point`.

Trips to the video store for a quiet night in can be fun. But remember;

Farenheit 451 is the temperature in which paper burns, the book is about a fascist society where books are burnt on a regular basis.

Reservoir Dogs has nothing to do with the movie but some say that a `reservior dog` is a rat and the centre of Reservoir Dogs is the `rat in the house`.

As for films where the title bears no resemblance to the film - Eraserhead? Straw Dogs? Trainspotting? O Brother Where Art Thou?

Assault on Precinct 13 is one. The assault was actually on precinct nine... The Lat Boy Scout doesn`t really have a lot to do with the film. I`m too drunk to think of any more...

Final Fantasy (`The Spirits Within` bit is relevant, but the main title has nothing to do with the film).

Eraserhead?

Eraserhead does relate to the film, I don`t want to spoil it, but the ending relates to the title.

10 to Midnight: There is no mention of this time at all.

Long Kiss Goodnight: Errr

Candyman: It`s about a supernatural person who has a hook for a hand and has a fetish for bees, in no way does he dish out anything of the confectionary kind.

Midnight Run: They don`t just run at midnight, they also run during the day.

Romper Stomper: Romper means A loosely fitted, one-piece garment having short bloomers that is worn especially by small children for play

So the film is about small children wearing loose fitted bloomers violently trampling on Asians. Hmmmm

Also The Fahrenheit 451 also meant that the firemen were not just burning books, but also they were burning away people`s freedom, so Fahrenheit 9/11 not only was it about the disaster but also about Bush burning away the American peoples freedom with the Patriot Act and snitching on your fellow neighbour because they don`t agree with Bush`s ideals.
