Is it worth watching the director`s cuts of Aliens and Alien 3?

Really what the title said, as I don`t like sitting through a film longer than I have to.

Nope, the originals were better (IMHO). Add nothing and take away pacing. Mistake.

Alien 3 is a better film for it, but it`s not a Director`s Cut, it`s very rough and some of the sound very poor. It`s basically a work-print.

Aliens is a mixed bag. It deepens the characters, but it loses it`s killer pace. But there are some standout scenes in the Special Edition, so well worth watching.

Aliens has been available in its SE form on DVD longer than the theatrical cut. I reckon it`s a better film because it adds depth to the relationships between Ripley, Newt and Hicks. However, as Chewie said, this depth does come at the expense of pace.

The Alien 3 assembly cut from the `Quadrilogy` is a curiosity more than anything else. It`s a different film, but not necessarily a better film. The audio issues only affect a small portion of the running time though. I reckon they`re both worth watching though.

I liked the Aliens Director`s Cut, although I know many didn`t. It fills out a few areas of storyline, particularly with Newt`s family and how the colony first encountered the Aliens, and adds a dimension to Ripley`s character and the whole "maternity" theme. I don`t want to chuck too many spoilers in...

I agree with sput2001 about the director`s cut of Aliens and actually prefer the alternative version of Alien 3 to the theatrical release! Apparently David Fincher was asked if he would make a `director`s cut` of Alien 3 and he said something like "No, not now - if they had asked me then, I would have done".

The Director`s Cut of Aliens only slackens the pace at the beginning of the film, so I don`t see it as a problem...

I have seen the SE of Aliens more times than the Theatrical Cut so prefer the SE, when I watch the normal cut I just know bits are missing and it isnt the same for me.
With Alien 3 I never really liked the film that much but did find the Workprint Edition more interesting and dare I say more entertaining so I would say its defently worth watching the Extended Cuts of both films.
