HMV is one of several retailers worried that such giveaways will diminish the value of their business.
Oh yeah, because everyone knows the future of the DVD retail business hangs in the balance thanks to every newspaper reader in the country owning half a dozen free copies of Prizzi`s Honor...

So am I right in guessing that HMV will now lower there prices....as opposed to charging the earth? :¦

The only reason I haven`t bought the `Sphere` Phantasm box set is that I`m waiting for it to be included free in one of the weekend papers. ;)

"DVDs should be aspirational but if you see them being tossed around it sends out a negative message," says HMV spokesman Gennaro Castaldo. "It devalues the medium in the minds of the public."
I think that speaks volumes about the HMV attitude to its customers - they have a product to sell that they want the public to want to buy at any price, and cheap DVDs will make folk expect prices to drop.

Thats a very snobbish attitude by HMV they must see dvds as something that rich people can afford and poor people should stick to vhs!
Total cobblers "DVDs should be aspirational" whats that about, is it my life goal now to save up (and at HMV`s prices) and buy a DVD.
When hmv start putting their prices down a bit and compete with internet sales they may find their business increase!
Face it we all like cheap dvd`s off the net, but if i could save myself several days delivery time and buy from the shop at the same price I certainly would.
