Page 1 of The Da Vinci Code. Great movie.
DVDs & Films Forum
I watched this movie tonight. I`ve been put off a bit by the bad reviews. It was mostly fast action, edge of your seat. I jumped twice during the movie, & it takes a lot to make me jump. Even when there is dialogue only, it is interesting & keeps you listening. My attention span for most movies is 90 minutes as most movies become boring after that, unless it has a good director or script. This one kept me & my wife totally glued for nearly two & a half hours. Critics. Go to the school of film makers & come back when you know what your talking about.

fast action, edge of your seatPlease tell me you`re not serious :o - it was two of the most tedious and dull hours I`ve ever spent in the cinema. The acting was atrocious, the plot ridiculous and Ron Howard, who is a safe pair of hands with a summer blockbuster, had no idea about the pacing. It was the cinematic equivalent of wading through treacle in the dark. I haven`t read the book and have no intention to considering those who saw it with me told me it was faithful to the novel. Even the normally brilliant Paul Bettany was dreadful. A sure-fire cure for insomnia. (:¦

RE: The Da Vinci Code. Great movie.
Book was quite a good read
Film was good but I think Tom Hanks was wrong for the part. Should have been someone like Harrison Ford. He would probably have played the scenes better. In the Smart car scenes where she is reversing through all the obstacles at high speed I think Mr Ford would have portrayed a feeling of panic/fear

That tells me not to bother reading any of your reviews. I was a projectionist in the 60s & believe you me I know a good film when I see one. Because of watching movies over & over we picked up on the good & the bad. If this film was bad then so was all the `Raiders` as the acting & storylines would be much the same as this. This could then be said of hundreds of good/great movies since the 60s.If this is the type of movie you don`t like then just don`t review it. It was great escapism.

so people should only review films they like? How is this going to give panyone a reasonably balanced set of opinions?
Anyway, I don`t see how being a projectionist automatically makes someone more qualified to give an opinion on a film.
I`ve also seen the da Vinci Code, and thought it was fairly dreadful, however I`m unable to compare with the book as I haven`t read it, and the film certainly doesn`t make me want to rush to Waterstone`s.

David reviews the widest range of movies, from the past to today. Classics or not. You will be missing out an awful lot if you bypass his weekly reviews.
Essential part of my week his reviews over practically the entire history of cinema.
Put him on the staff. Pay him! ;)

I thought the book was fast paced and an interesting read, looking forward to the film on DVD (not seen it at all yet...).
That said, it`s all about opinions and that`s what reviewers give. Their opinion. You don`t have to like it, but you may learn something about their perspective on a certain film, book, cd, whatever. You either accept it or ignore at your discretion.
I try to read all the reviews on the site, even the ones by Tithers which I`m unlikely to ever see. Not just for the opinion, but for writing style as well. Mind, considering the amount of reviews Matthew has done recently to say that you know to avoid his based on his opinion in this thread, suggests you don`t read many (or any).

Go that way, really fast. If something gets in your way, turn...
And those who dance will spin and turn,

And those who talk will hear the words,

And those who laugh will surely fall,
And those who know will always feel their backs against the thin wall...
