RE: Are the R2 Die Hard movies cut ?
Die Hard 2: Die Harder
From Melon Farmers.
The uncut version shows more of Cochran`s head becoming stuck in the luggage conveyer mechanism (his head becomes twisted behind the roller).
In the uncut version, Telford`s throat being cut is more explicit, leans back against the truck and we see the gash then falls foward with blood gushing out
The icicle scene is missing where McCLane rams the icicle in and then breaks the end off and also the sight of the bad guy poised in mid-air with it embedded in his eye. Also missing is a quick shot of the guy lying on the ground and McCLane`s "Ugh" reaction.
The shoot out in the Skywalk is shorter missing a close up of one victim yelling before the scaffolding falls across him.
Dialogue cuts were the frequent overdub of f*** especially in any scene where Carmine and McCLane are together! An example is where F***ing has been replaced with Frigging (Flip Off censors say the Melon Farmers).
Die Hard with a Vengeance.
The film was also pre-cut by 20th Century Fox in America before it`s release on DVD and VHS, and it was this cut that was released worldwide. The 12 seconds of cuts include some chain-whipping in the fight between McClane and Targo.
Killing of guard by the mute woman: entry & withdrawal of knife, blood spurt are all cut.
Lift scene at end: McClane shooting and the resulting blood sprays on his face are cut. US version is graphically extended including one man getting his head blown off and his body slumping on top of John. This is why John is on the floor when he crawls out of the lift door and is soaked in blood. See the gallery for montage of this scene
Chain fight between McClane & Russian: One chain-hit has been cut.
Dialogue cut for language eg "F*** you Joe" becomes "Go away Joe"
The R1 Special Edition available from US Amazon is the most complete version of the film to date (as of August 2002).

RE: Are the R2 Die Hard movies cut ?
Interesting. I was always under the impression that Die Hard III was cut, but not Die Hard II. In fact, Rewind suggests there are no cuts to Die Hard II on R2 DVD.
However, I`m not a Die Hard movie expert. Can anyone confirm the cuts to the second film, that Floyd suggests?

And those who dance will spin and turn,

And those who talk will hear the words,
And those who see will fade and die,
And those who laugh will surely fall,
And those who know will always feel their backs against the thin wall...
RE: Are the R2 Die Hard movies cut ?
Die Hard 2 was cut for its VHS release but IIRC the cut was restored for dvd.
Die hard 3 was mistakenly released in some kind of airline version for its original UK dvd release but I was under the impression that some ,if not all the cuts were restored for dvd re-release.
But its this kind if uncertainty with key titles like the Die Hard series that always makes sure I go for r1 on those
RE: Are the R2 Die Hard movies cut ?
I`ve checked with the BBFC website, and none of the cuts for either Die Hard`s have been waived.

Just checked my copy of this to compare
Die Hard 2: Die Harder
From Melon Farmers.

The uncut version shows more of Cochran`s head becoming stuck in the luggage conveyer mechanism (his head becomes twisted behind the roller).
There is a shot from under the roller as his head is pulled through and him screaming.

Definately in there. See the gash for 3 to 4 seconds as he leans back.

McClane stabs him in the eye, guy screams, McClane twists and snaps off the icicle, guy dies and then falls forward. McClane then pushes him off and rolls him towards camera, camera cuts to a shot of the guys head with icicle sticking out of eye, cut to McClane "Ugh" and turning away. Looks complete to me.

The shoot out in the Skywalk is shorter missing a close up of one victim yelling before the scaffolding falls across him.
There a close up of the guy screaming then the scaffold falls across his body in a wide shot and he gets all mangled up.

Just watched the scene in Carmines office near the beginning and half a dozen F***s, no frigs at all.
This is the boxed copy I have.

RE: Are the R2 Die Hard movies cut ?
I am almost certain that Die Hard 2 is uncut on R2.
Edit-DVD Compare confirms that the R2 is uncut.
There was some fuss a decade ago because the icepick shot was missing on the VHS which was given a 15.
At that time the UK laserdisc came out and was complete with an 18.
This lead to discussion about different versions with different certificates being available-it was the same with T2 which was cut on VHS but uncut on the UK LD.
The cuts present in DH 3 were nothing to do with the BBFC but with Buena Vista who unintentionally released a butchered version.
Edit-DVD Compare confirms that SOME cuts were not BBFC originated.
As I said before,at least some of the bits that need not have been missing were back in on the DVD re-release.
Its really not a good idea to follow the BBFC website for 100% accuracy on waiving of cuts as their database always seem to be missing some info .
Best bet is sites like DVD Compare where real fans who know the films back to front can confirm their status
