Anybody Used Britannia Mail Order Club

Kevo (Competent) posted this on Wednesday, 17th January 2001, 23:28

Is there a catch ?

From what I can gather....

Five DVDs for £13.99 (introductory offer)
Suits me.

Then you MUST buy a further 3 DVDs in the first year and another 3 in the second year. (can you then cancel your membership?)
Suits me.

So there has to be a catch with that "introductory offer"...Doesn`t there?

Is there a catch, he says!!

Once Britannia have their foul claws in you, you`re DOOMED, d`you hear me? DOOMED!! First there`s the regular club magazine, full of disks you`d never want to buy in a million years - stuff like the Warner`s back catalogue that you can get in Asda for £8.98 - only it`s £20 plus £2.95 p+p. They try to tempt you with the "disk of the month", but what do you want with a Pilates exercise programme? So you spend the price of a first class stamp to say "no thanks" and they send it you anyway. You post it back (recorded delivery) and this goes on for a whole year (in which time in desperation, you`ve bought your minimum six disks - all overpriced - to get them off your back). You cancel your membership and breathe a sigh of relief, but no! The next month there on your doormat is another club magazine. You cancel again, and again, but still the magazines come. And more lousy disks. Finally you write to the head of subscriptions and tell him that anything else he sends you will consider to be unsolicited mail and if he wants it back, he will have to pay for it.

Suddenly there is blessed silence. No more club magazines. Only monthly letters offering you five disks for free if you sign up to their new club - the only committment you make is you have to buy another six disks over the next two years.

It never ends!!! Ahhahahahahahaha!!!! (sob)

You forgot about the constant overwhelming daily surge of junk mail you`ll get as well, when they sell your details to all and sundry.

I joined the Britannia CD club about 3 years ago. So far I have brought 4 regular priced CD`s, 4 Bonus Price and about 10 on special offer. I have had no letters telling me I have breached the terms and conditions, which I blatently have(!). I still owe them money from CD`s that I received in November.

As for the monthly junk mail/catalogues, you can cancel the recommended recordings online or over the phone (about 10p). Plus if you don`t cancel the recommended recording and it arrives, phone them and swear blind that you cancelled it over the phone system and then return it free of charge.

Yeah, the CD`s may be a little over priced, but don`t forget that you saved about £40 (on the high street price) in the opening offer.

Same experience as Mark, but this was years ago so I guess their MO hasn`t changed. I had 3 debt collection agencies on my back after writing to cancel membership several times. Those discs of the month just kept on coming. Also had a snotagram from Britannia accusing me of being underhand & deceitful among other things. Help from Citizens Advice Bureau finally got rid of them. AVOID!!

I have not been with Britannia but as a Postman I get to know what they are like!
People are always telling me they have canceled stuff but they still send them.
My advice to people who are with them and get something they dont want is to catch your Postman and say you are refusing the item (and be nice about it!!) Or stick it back in a post box with refused, not requested on it.
If you do go with them, can people please sort out there letter boxes so the boxes will go through!! AND please get rid of those brush strips ( fresh air is good for you!)
