9/11, Spare a moment please...

Westy (Elite) posted this on Thursday, 11th September 2003, 18:13

Hello all

A sombre scene at my office today as the IVR was shut down for 2 mintues to remember those who so sadly lost their lives in the September 11th attacks. The quiet hush around the whole building was so peaceful - and you couldn`t help but feel a bit of a choke.

2 years on, the images still shock you to your very core. Scenes like those seen on that horrible day will hopefully never be seen again, but will never be forgotten for both their shocking intensity and the awful reality that someone can do this much harm to such innocent people.

It sparked some conversation today for sure, but the horrible fact is that it took one mans sick mind just 3 hours to kill 2700 people in a morning of total disbelief. :/

Some may choose not to remember, some may choose to forget, but for me, the greatest tragedy i have ever witnessed sticks in my mind every year it comes around. The amazing images captured on film by the various news channels and independent witnesses across the world will live with us all forever, and my heart and thoughts are there today for all those that lost their lives, their families and their loved ones on this day 2001.

I hope some of you here reading this evening will spare a moment with me :)

Thanks

Westy

Yes - very moving. Especially for me as I was at Ground Zero two weeks ago.

There was a minute`s silence where I work today. Thankfully everyone kept quiet and no mobiles went off.

Mark

An old Tesco colleague of mine showed me some photo`s of Ground Zero when he went the beginning of the year. A solemn sight indeed, as i fondly remember visiting the towers when they stood. They were simply massive and standing at "The Windows of the World" 107 floors up still sticks in my mind, it was incredible.

Now sadly gone, but never forgtotten.

It`s like JFK`s assassination, everyone remembers where they were when it happened. For myself, me and my wife were travelling back from Liverpool. To paraphrase a line from the Cenotaph "Lest we forget"

Me? At school, playing pool in break, I remember. Came over the radio - headed onto the Net to find out more, and then the horror unravelled...

A very moving time for me for very personal reasons, also. My thoughts are with all those affected.

I still feel that 9/11 was allowed (dare I say, maybe even planned) by the USA Goverment to give them free reign to enter Afganistan and Iraq (for oil), Even a high up UK Ex -Goverment minister said the same thing in the national papers this week.

There was too many slip ups by the arabs involved while staying in the USA, yet it all went ahead as planned.

When world politics is implimented Joe Public is unfortunately cannon fodder, which is not much a comfort for the greiving relatives that are left behind.
