Loss of my wonderful brother in law

Choagy (Elite) posted this on Friday, 12th September 2003, 22:30

I realise that many may think this post should maybe not be posted but I feel the need to put into words the way I feel at present. I may not be as coherent or grammatically correct as I would like but please bear with me on this extremely sad day for my wife, daughter, son, sister in law and all extended members of our family and friends.

At about 06:15 Friday morning my wife and I received a telephone call from the local police to try to get to my sister in laws house as soon as possible. During the ten minute drive both my wife and I were catastrophising as to what we would possibly face when we arrived at their house. Unfortunately our very worst , yet probable, suspicions were to be realised in a very tragic way.

My best and much loved Wee Pal Jamie had collapsed in the hallway of their house and died of what appears to be a massive heart attack at about 06:10. As if this in itself was not bad enough for my sister in law she had to endure the agony of attempting CPR on the poor wee soul for about 10 minutes prior to the paramedics arriving. Unfortunately Lynns efforts and the valiant and extremely vigorous efforts of the paramedics and police were to no avail and my great wee pal Jamie very sadly passed away. I realise that we are not the only family to have suffered tragedy on Friday but I never in my darkest moments thought that Jamie would pass away at thirty eight years old and leave my good ladies sister a widow at thirty six.
At this precise moment I can honestly say that I have no real idea how I feel. The only analogy I can use is the following. Imagine a very cold winters day. Your hands become extremely cold and eventually you do not feel the cold and feel numb to the pain. You know you are cold but you still do not feel the cold or pain.
That is probably an accurate description of my state at present.
In my forty eight years on this earth I can honestly say that wee Jamie is the finest young man it has ever been my pleasure to know. He has enriched not only my families lives but the lives of the many friends he has had during his time.

I had better finish up now as I am going to raise a glass of Glenfiddich to my wee pal and toast his memory and pray that he will be in a better place now and forever more.

God Bless You Wee Pal I will miss you each and every day for the rest of my life.

Ian

What to say? Words can`t express what you`re feeling - we have lost five members of our family over the last three years, and a torrent of emotions floods through you, so I can truly sympathise with you.

My family all send our most heartfelt wishes to you & your family. Oh, and don`t worry about expressing your feelings here. We`re all happy to listen.

Take Care & God Bless

Choagy, sorry to hear about you and your family`s lost. Mourn... but also take this opportunity to take a look around and better appreciate the moments you have now with your loved ones, family and friends alike. Cherish the memories of your dear departed friend and brother-in-law but also rejoice in life as I am sure he wishes for you all.

Best regards to you and your family.
