Switch off your DVD, put on your coat...
...and get down to the conema to see
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.
Saw it today, and it is best film I`ve seen in years. Combination of a love story, morality tale, martial arts and fairy tale. No hollywood superstar`s ego to massage, no crass music to justify the spend on commissioning a "pop star", no storyline to fit round the special effects.
Just perfect.

Normally I`d follow a recommendation like this.
Unfortunately, Nottingham witnessed a very, very sad piece of history today, when the world`s first ever multi-screen cinema, The Odeon, closed its doors (after 68 years) to the public tonight for the very last time. The last film showed was by a local geezer from Bramcote (just outside Nottingham) which was a cool gesture.
This means that Nottingham does not have a city centre cinema until the new Gallery opens later this year.
And I steadfastedly refuse to go to an out-of-town money-grabbing warehouse multiplex job.
Progress really does suck, sometimes...

Is very good, but I sat in my lounge and enjoyed it in my own home.

How? Is it available on DVD? Where from?

PN, it`s been available on DVD (region 3 mind) for aound 3 weeks. Look in the Software forum for links if you are skeptical. But it is true that Cinema does give a greater impact to the picture as I was slightly underwhelmed (at the least 10 years of Kung Fu films does spoil you).

yangshouwen, Thanks for that. Not sceptical, just curious. I`m new to DVD, so new that I`m still waiting for my player to arrive!
I`m not an officianado of martial arts films, so I don`t know how CTHD compares with them. I`ve no idea how the special effects compare with typical MA films, and I don`t know whether they have such a strong storyline, or whether they have weak plots that just join great fight scenes together.
Are there any more you can recommend that are in the style of CTHD?
RE: Switch off your DVD, put on your coat...
Would do if the nearest multiplex to me wasn`t 90 miles away!

Hi PN,
I`m a fan of martial arts but I haven`t seen CTHD, although I should get it on DVD within the next few days. I`m tempted to see it at the cinema as everyone is raving about it.

I`ll let you know once I`ve seen the film although I`m no expert on Hong Kong films. If anyone else out there can recommend some `must see` Hong Kong/martial art films I`d be gratefull.
Thanks,
CodeWarrior.

Sorry, I dont think you were asking me but I just had to mention this film (if you havent already heard of it)
If you like CTHD you will like "Fist Of Legend" with Jet Li.
It has the same fight co-ordinater as CTHD (as well as the Matrix), Wu Ping and it totally rocks.
It is the best MA film ever in my opinion and I have seen loads of them.
Aye.
