Bob Monkouse is dead

What a trooper!

Here`s a great quote from the BBC site this morning...

Quote:
Asked about his health, he joked: "I saw a specialist who asked me `Are you familiar with the phrase faecal impaction?`.

"I said I think I saw that one with Glenn Close and Michael Douglas."

One of the few comedians who managed to be funny across generations.

The guy was an absolute genius...razor sharp mind and wit. I bought my dad one of
his video`s around 5 years ago (a live standup) and was blown away by his story telling and delivery.
I`ll never forget that BBC series he did a couple of years back where he ended each
episode with getting the audience to shout out 4 words at random...he`d then go
on effortlessly to tie all the words up in a cracking joke.
RIP Bob

My uncle`s first wife (lucky sod!) was a Benny Hill girl who went on to work with Bob as a hostess on The Golden Shot.

She always said that Bob was one of the most genuinely charming, affable - and very clever - people you could wish to meet. And what he didn`t know about 40s/50s cinema isn`t worth knowing.

His autobiography "Crying With Laughter" is well worth a read. A very funny man and a sad loss.

Indeed, one of those rare celebrities that did it for the thrill of doing it, rather than the money. Not only a fine comedian, but an excellent actor too, his turn in that Johnathan Creek episode was totally believable, as well as his earlier work.

Can`t remember the film, but he`s sitting at the back of an army training classroom gazing wistfully out of the window. Suddenly the instructor shouts at him for not paying attention.

Oh, but I was sir.
Well, if you were, you`ll know how to assemble this Bren gun in less than a minute. Up you come..

(up he goes, and indeed, assebles the gun in about 15 minutes

Quote:
Well, my apologies, it appears you were paying attention after all.

Actually no sir, I used to work in the factory that made these buggers

And we`ll surely be reminded often, and soon, of exactly how much work he actually did with all the tribute shows that will pop up. In no way a bad thing

I am just devastated, this is the first I have heard of it.

He was truely funny when he was in his element with a live audience & I fear his slick gameshow "sincerity" came across as insincere & alienated many a person, though I think (certainly in my case) he was able to win them once he back once out of that enviroment.

Another one of the ever decreasing genuinely funny & we will not see the like of again.
