RAIDERS,STARWARS,EPISODE 2 ALL AVAILIABLE ON DVD NOW ?????

It seems that loging on to various auction sites you can buy the indiana jones trilogy, star wars trilogy and the phantom menace all on d.v.d,
there are pictures of the discs in there covers and it stresses that they are all origional versions. it also states that they are not v.c.d versions so what are they?
i have no intention of buying them (i can wait for the official releases) but i am curious as to where these things are coming from...

You`ll probably find that these are dvd`s that contain the vcd image -- ie transferred the vcd contents of both discs onto a dvd = poor quality

Remember the old advice, folks "If something seems too good to be true it usually is"

I think we`d all know if all of the named films came out on DVD - what kind of advertising do you think Lucas would pump into that little lot ?

There are bootleg DVDs going round in Asia which were made from the Laserdisc releases over there. But if anybody thinks for one moment the quality is going to be up to DVD standard then just remember that encoding video in MPEG2 is an art rather than an exact science.

Plus to do it properly requires very expensive hardware, whilst pirates will attempt the same thing with off the shelf software and a PC system.

And all this before you even consider that Laserdisc is nowhere near as good quality as DVD, unable to match the same bit rates for 5.1 Dolby Digital and DTS sound, plus the inherent problems relating how its video is stored, and DVD has higher resolution video, handles colour better, and so on. ;-)

um.. Episode 2 isn`t finished yet web spinner!

But yeah, they are some kind of crappy copies. l say Raiders at a computer fair on Saturday for £15. l asked the guy if l could see the picture quality, he said "No". That spoke volumes to me!

I`ve heard that the bootleg Indy DVDs are pan-and-scan :-(

The worst thing about these knock-off DVDs is the price. I might spend, say, £4 out of curiosity to see Star Wars on bootleg DVD, but there`s no way I`d pay £10-£15 for such dodgy, amateurish copies! Anyone willing to do so needs their head read.

I`d NEVER buy a pirate DVD and can`t understand why anybody would want to, even if the quality was as good as the original. The studios put a lot of effort into them (except Warner and a few others) and they are reasonably priced for a quality product.
Somehow I can`t see the bootleggers making a killing on DVDs like they do with VHS and computer games.
