It says that he is nearing the end of his LIFE SENTENCE. Why, is he about dead then?
Surely he should be made to pay some of his money back to the prison service for having to look after the filty scum twat.

This really is a joke. Surely gambling should be one of the things not permitted when on day release.

Anyone else noticed that most lottery winners who are publicised are criminals or Junkies.

The bit that gets me is that he was allowed OUT to buy the ticket ! >:(
I bet the management at Camelot are just loving this......not.... :(
Another nail in the lottery`s coffin I bet.

Surely a prison sentence should mean cancellation of any rights to take part in such an activity ?
The opportunity to make money whilst you`re banged up is ridiculous !

I agree totally. Yet it seems criminals these days have more rights then the victims / innocent people.I bet some do gooder from the "he did`nt mean to do it" brigade jump on the bang wagon and defend him. There does seem to be more of these politically correct groups around these days. Tossers!

There should be a ruling that if you are a convicted criminal, you can not take part or profit from things like the lottery ect..but again, thats not fair on the criminal is it?

That`s as maybe, but how the heck are you going to enforce that one? Is every newsagent in the country going to have to check all their customers` criminal records?

He was banned from going into a bookies or a pub i.e. licenced premises but was perfectly entitled to go into a newsagents. Prisoners may have premium bonds, football pools or have a direct debit lottery system, all of which they can win money on.

Is it the fact that he is a rapist that makes this so distasteful or that he is in jail? Would there be such a media uproar if he was serving 6 months for not paying his TV licence?

I don`t think that`s correct.
I think the home office rules are that those are forbidden.
The lottery is the only thing of that type that is not forbidden.

I stand to be corrected though.
