First-Hand account of the Ian Brown `incident`
Courtesy of my very good friend Tony T.....
I was only 10 feet away from the stage when I watched ex- Stone Roses singer Ian Brown go insane on some drunk asshole in the crowd and a member of security. Brown was only 3 songs into his set when he kept stopping the song and complaining about the sound quality of the house system. As this was happening, their was this drunk guy pushing his way through the crowd towards the stage. As Brown went into another song, this drunk jumped onto stage and tackled the singer to the ground! My girlfriend and I were right in front of the stage watching this happen!
Brown yells "what the f***" over the mike system, and this huge scuffle takes place. Security charges the place, and Brown is stomping the s*** out of this drunk. Before you know it, Brown and this gigantic bleach blonde security guard are getting in each other`s faces yelling things at each other. Brown decks him too and they start throwing punches at each other! His band jump him as well, stomping him with mikes and frickin` tamborines. Security comes rushing back on, some seperating them all, some fighting! It was this mini riot. Everyone gets dragged off, and the house lights come back on. A pair of guards stand on stage, and the mood is really tense. They yell at anyone even remotely close to the stage to "get the f*** away!" We`re standing around, seeing fans crying, some people clearly upset, while others half-drunk, really pumped up.
Since we both had school the next day, we decided to leave. I heard he eventually came back out and finished the show, but afterwards, he was arrested. It sucks, seeing as I am a huge Stone Roses fan, and I really like his new Solarized album, I was really looking forward to the show, we paid $30 a ticket. But it is definately a story to tell.
So, fun for all the family then...

I prefer it when a band spontaneously combusts on stage without any outside interference from stage interlopers - see The Fall, Brownies, New York, April 1998...a gig of legends, luckily all caught on camera by someone, and recently broadcast on BBC4 (to be repeated in June on BBC2).
In that instance the singer started dismantling bits of equipment and it ended up with a fracas....

Don`t knock it until you`ve tried it - best band going and 2005 will be their year, mark my words...

Friggin rich Ian Brown complaining about the sound quality.
Without a doubt one of the worst gigs I`ve been to in the past couple of years.
He`d have been as well shouting random vowel sounds and animal noises down the mike for all you could make out.
The man may be a legend, but he`s become a bit of a joke.
