Kennedy calls leadership election

I can`t see him losing it and it will hopefully see the Lib Dems stop their internal squabbling and get on with promoting alternative policies to the other two major parties.

But wasn`t there also something on the news about him going into a drink rehabilitation centre as well, that won`t bode well with voters.

Personally I think this might be the end for him. Admitting he has a problem, regardless of the fact it is true, will work against him as factions argue as to whether his judgement is/was/has ever been impaired by drink. It would have been better to call the contest without an admission in my view, although I`m not a LibDem anyway so I`m not overly bothered.

Some smart arse will also make a cutting comment within the next few days about the day he appeared to fall asleep shortly after the birth of his baby, which will be uncalled for but sadly inevitable.

(And no, the above doesn`t count as that...)

Go that way, really fast. If something gets in your way, turn...

And those who dance will spin and turn,
And those who wait will wait no more,
And those who talk will hear the words,
And those who see will fade and die,
And those who laugh will surely fall,
And those who know will always feel their backs against the thin wall...

Well it seems most of the front runners for the leadership are all saying they will not stand against him, so i reckon he will go on.

That may well be true, but how long would he be able to stand the pressure of the media baiting him after every policy annoucement, etc. I suspect there will be a lot of sympathy at first, which would be deserved in my view, but you know it never lasts long. I`m pretty sure comedians will also be gagging to let rip at some point as well.

I don`t think he deserves it, but I can see it coming at some point...

F***ing reporters! Just watched the ITV late news and the smug presenter proudly versed us with the "at 15:03 hrs we contacted the Lib Dem HQ with proof that Kennedy had a drink problem, so what you gonna do about it before we go public on the Six O` Clock News" - so poor old Kennedy had to come out and make a statement.

I`m not a Lib Dem but feel sorry for the bloke - he`s got a problem - he`s getting help - now leave the poor sod alone.

I don`t think they will. Watched Newsnight (which obviously covered this in some detail) and it was quite telling at the end with the paper headlines for tomorrow. Only tabloid featured was The Sun with a double headline:

Staying (something about Blair carrying on I think...)

and straight underneath

Swaying (give you three guesses).

Twats.

So it`s OK for tabloid journos to mock alcoholics again? The post-"Tragic Besty" compassion didn`t last long. :(

All the knives that have been out in the Lib Dems have really disillusioned me about them: the sort of behaviour I`d have expected from the Tories.

My vote`s back up for grabs again! :D

No axe to grind against Kennedy at all or his party, while murmerings were heard of the "Kennedy assassination" over Christmas, just took it as mumblings of discontent.

This whole blackmail of the media of CK\LD worries me.

& while on the subject of drunk while in office, I want to slam dunk this msg of support for CK.

You are a disgrace, your drunk. Some posh bitch

I quite like the Helpdesk people in a benevolent (as opposed to malevolent) way as they do some valuable work in preventing us being inundated by every halfwit who can work a phone.
