I`m back...after directing a music video!
Hi all, I hope everyone is well. :)
Earlier this year I directed a music video for a friend of mine who is currently on the verge of securing a record contract. The single, "Different", was chosen from his demo tape and I have now finished the lengthy editing process.
REMOVED BY REQUEST
The filesize is 78MB, which should take about 10 minutes to load on a broadband connection. It`s advisable to let the entire video load (let the bar go across the screen) before clicking Play to ensure smooth playback.
I hope you enjoy it and I`d welcome any feedback.

I think I just brought up a little bit of sick....
s`ok.. I`ve swallowed it back down now..
but seriously Rik.. I do admire you determination to be succesful at such a young age.. and there`s no doubt that you are able to put together polished looking stuff... and I think you will do well in the future... but dear me ditch tatham while you still can... how`s yer mate near to a recording contract?.. That song was `orrible...for someone who claims to want to lead a normal life with tourettes .. he certainly harps on about it... how many songs has he written about it now?..
oh.. and why`s he carrying around a guitar when there`s no guitar in that song?..
bah.. humbug.. I`m full of cold and got tonsillitus.. and that just made me feel worse.. now.. where`s that Sony Bravia ad to cheer me up... ah.. there we go.. acoustic guitar and bouncy balls... ahhhh!

Video looks nice. It`s even better with the sound off.
All the best,

You definitely have a talent, but there are a few things that didn`t seem right, such as the cutaways you do don`t often flow with the music, you have a steady rhythm going, but then you force an edit in which breaks up the rhythm of that moment.
If you look at the music video Hurt sung by Johnny Cash you can see that each edit goes with the flow of the music, and there`s not one forced edit.
For instance in your video, you have an overshot of the two couple on the beach, instead of hanging on to that shot, and either letting them go closer to each other, or just stood there for a second longer, you broke that rhythm by cutting to him on a busy street, and then you cut back to them cuddling on the beach.
You also faded to quickly at the end of the video, instead of lingering on to that final shot for a bit longer and then fade to black, or perhaps fade to white to give the audience that there's hope for the couple, also the first fade to black felt unnecessary as it was coming to the end of the song.
Another problem was that his mouth wasn`t in sync with the music which can put your audience off because they will focus on that more rather than the shots you`ve created and the music that`s playing.
Apart from that the video was good, and you do have a good eye for shots, and you will do well.

This is the second song he`s written about his condition, although it is essentially a re-recording of the first, "Tourette Blues". If you want to hear his other music, go here - http://www.nicktatham.co.uk/html/music.htm - I think you should at least listen to his other new material before completely dismissing him. (As well as listening to the five latest tracks, I suggest you listen to "Guilt Trip" and "Inside Outside", under "More Tracks", as they are very good as well.)

He sometimes plays an acoustic version of the song...and the guitar is essentially a symbol for his "weapon" or saving grace in life.
Mark - we did indeed shoot some of this in Bournemouth, as well as Sandbanks, Badbury Rings and Wimborne.
Thanks for all the comments and feedback. I`ll bear it all in mind for the next music video I do, which will hopefully be later this year. I also have two short films in pre-production which I am aiming to shoot in July.

Nice, bit `wuss rock` for me.
As for the vid, Ok, nice shots, some a bit cliched. Ok, but wouldn`t pay for it.

78mb for a music video posted online? IMHO the web (I have 4mb) isn`t ready for streaming 3:42 music videos half the file size of better-quality a 30-minute TV episode. Do people just surfing on in really have the patience to wait?
I hope your host is generous! :D
Looks nice though - I like how dark the beach was.
