How far away from your parents do you live?? Do you miss them if it`s a long way??
I`m 38 and have lived within 15 minutes drive of my parents until 3 months ago when we moved from Hampshire to Cheshire.
We`ve moved for (hopefully) a better life for our daughter, a lower mortgage and to be away from the rat race that is the London commuter belt and so far we are loving it...apart from our parents being so far away.
I guess, for me it has hit home as my parents were up for the weekend and it was pretty hard watching them drive off. I know it`s easy to speak on the phone etc and it is `only` a 3 hour drive, I guess it`s just that I am close to my folks after my dad had a `procedural accident` while having a heart valve replaced in 2001 and is now disabled.
So, do your parents live a long way from you?? Is it a good or bad thing?
Thanks
why take life so seriously..its not like you are going to make it out alive

We live just 15 minutes drive from my parents and right next door to my wife`s. Most of the time I think it`s great, easy to just pop over and say hello, lots of opportunities for family meals, etc. Sometimes, though, it can be annoying when they can just turn up at any moment (not great if you`re having a row and reinforcements for the other side turn up - not that we row often, but you know what I mean).
I did live about 150 miles away from my parents for a while, and didn`t really like it at all. I had plenty of friends around, but still missed my family.

Left from Manchester to go on tour and then live in London for about 10 years. On tour was OK as I could be anywhere in the country and always tried to make the road trip through to the next venue through Manchester which was quite easy as Manchester is sort of central.
However when in London did find I missed them - wasn`t just a quick 5 minute journey to see them - thing missed my brother more though.
Now back home and have no intention of ever setting foot in London again - you can keep it ;)

Have lived 160 or so away from my mum and about 180 miles from my sister and her family for the last 14 years (both in S. Wales and Im in Hampshire). Miss them sometimes but mum rings nearly everyday (!) and visits few times a year. Me and my sis go for months without talking then just fall staight back into conversation. Im not from a close family so guess that makes a difference. Friends are the main stay in my life - dont know if thats a good or bad thing :/

Its deciding how close is too close really.
See Everybody Loves Raymond for that!
Moved to London a few years back which is a good 200 miles from ma and pa in somerset.
Don`t know whether it was the family thing or they way we were brought up to enjoy the place we lived but after 5 years we moved back.
Wifes parents are both ill and they live a few streets away and my parents live across the other side of town..
Both now have better careers and a big house and spare money most months compared to living hand to mouth in London...and having your folks around is a good thing as you don;t know how long you have left with them,,,
I find it kind of funny, I find it kind of sad

My parents live in Crosby and I live in Southport. Thats a total of about 18 miles...pretty handy if we want to meet up. My brother lives in Sheffield which is about a 2 and a half hour drive but he`s up most weekends. Whenever the wife and I have a weekend off we drive down to his. Since the advent of the internet and mobile phones we are always texting , ringing or sending each other emails so I feel like he`s only round the corner from me!
All of us are always meeting up. I`m from a close family and also get on famously with my wifes parents - who only live about 5 minutes away.

My dad`s 5 mins away, THO`s mum & sister are in Romford 200 miles away.
Its going to get harder for my dad than THO`s close family as they only see her twice a year, when we (still hopefully) go to Canada next year.
That said we will get the paperwork in ASAP after we land, so he can be sponsored & join us there, assuming he actually wants to stay there with us.

Mum was 200 or so miles away in Cornwall, a 4 hour drive down the A303 and A30 from Hampshire. Dad lives in Brazil.
