Page 1 of Guitars For Christmas - Advice Please

Typical NumbNutz wants a electric guitar for Christmas (to play in his school\mates band), to add to his collection of acoustic guitar & keyboard.

Naturally this does not help matters in "small" portable Christmas presents this year, prior to the big move next year.

So I am thinking along the lines of cheap & cheerful rather than top notch or a good guitar & a second hand amp to be sold on prior to departure & find something better in Ca.

Any recommendations to suitability with these...

Encore electric guitar & amp.
Electric-ST Guitar.

but that Ross practice amp in the 1st ebay link you posted looks better than my ebuyer one

OR HERE Both have a set necks (rather than bolted). I don`t think any of the ebuyer ones do.

i would suggest going to pawn shops, they quite oftern have really cheep and fairly good quality quitars for real cheap (round £150) they look like the expensive to the normal person that has got no idea about guitars and could sound worse. some are even new so you dont need to worry if they have been played by a lepper.

my first guitar was an encore and it wasn`t great.
my brother bought a yamaha at the same time and the sound from it was lovely.. i have it with my `collection` now, and it still sweet sounding..

As Noob suggests, my local Cash Converters has loads of guitars, amps, pedals etc in the window. I guess a lot of teenagers get them for birthdays or Christmas, novelty soon wears off so they want the cash instead.

The Encore was my first set-up...nothing wrong with that at all if the difference in price between that and second-hand isn`t that great...

Cheers for all the info guys, it`s not needed for a total beginner, he`s already picked up the acoustic guitar for a few months now.

Darn his lousy sense of timing! Just when we start to consider dumping\selling\packing stuff in (hopefully) the next few months*, he wants a bulky Christmas gift!

*Still waiting on final decision hopefully before Christmas, not helped that additional medical reports have not been received by CHC as they appear to be lost by the postman, despite being guarrented next day before delivery.

For my 2 penneth... have a look at the "Vintage" guitar range....

Most budget end guitars are made by the same factories anyway... what ever you buy its worth paying a few sheckles to get it setup... Nothing worse than buying a guitar you like and it playing like a dog.....
