Page 1 of Apparently our teenagers dont need sex advice!!!

Warning...........the following is long winded and includes a MAJOR rant!! LOL

So up until May I was very happy in my job on the kids ward but then I was told I couldnt do a sexual health course as (and I quote)

" there is no need for teenagers to have a specific Peads nurse educating them on sexual health and pregnancy - anyone who has done the training can do it!" (even though the Winchester sex health team were willing to back me and pay half the fees as they find teenagers the most difficult group to deal with!)

The fact that you have to be specifically trained to be a kids nurse etc obviously doesnt count when it comes to teenagers shagging! And as we can tell by our teen sti and pregancy statistics its working (not!)

So with no funding and no future I moved to A&E as they were very interested in my area of interest. Just applied for course funding (with Soton sex health team willing to pay half just like Winchester were) to be told............."nah we dont really need it"

FFS the last 3 nights alone I have had 7 teenagers who were either pregnant or infected with sti`s who say there is nowhere for them to go and no one to talk but there is no fecking need for me to do the training.................to say Im p***ed about it is an understatement >:(

Juls I do the usual s***e that NHS feckwit managers require, Id get the STI rates for the local area by age and put that side by side with teen attendance at A&E then let them say your not required :D also contact your local nurse practice development team if you have one for support.

What complete and utter arseholes they are ffs its not like its a course you going to do and then swan off somewhere warm and sunny grrrrr

FFS the NHS really doesnt treat it`s staff right. >:( You`re damed if you do & damed if you dont. Shove some stats under their noses & see how that helps. Good luck with it all Juls. :)

I consider myself an optimist, albeit an optimist with cynical tendencies and a dark side that Lucifer himself would find a little creepy. (Perhaps you've noticed.) You don't normally associate cynicism with an upbeat pov. But I have exactly that combination and will defend it.

When fishermen catch dolphin-friendly tuna, how do they know which tuna are being friendly to dolphins?

Been discussing an opportunity in Ottawa as they are just starting a campaign to try to get UK nurses to migrate to work there.............so very tempting but sadly not possible at the moment
