Monsters Inc- Awesome

Westy (Elite) posted this on Monday, 4th February 2002, 14:12

Hi all,

Me and a bunch of mates went to see the Monsters Inc previews last night and it was ALL GOOD! Ok so this won`t beat Pixars own Toy Story 2, but for sheer class and all round technical brilliance, this is hard to beat. The Birds animated short before the movie is genius, as is the trailer for Twentieth Century Fox`s Ice Age.
I believe CGI will bloom this year.
Has anyone else seen Monsters Inc (apart from some of our US visitors of course!)

Westy

P.S. Big round of applause to the projectionist for actually swithching on the surround speakers-i`ve lost count of the amount of cinemas i`ve been to which are, frankly, utter crap. The film sounded absolutely stunning.

Yep, saw it on Saturday. Thought the film as a whole was good, but visually it was amazing. The scenes with Sully in the snow must have taken ages to make, they got the the fur blowing in the the wind spot on.

Took my 2 nieces to see it on Sunday preview at Cineworld. Good film. Not as good as the Toy Stories. Looked amazing though and as usual it`s great for kids and adults alike. As Westy says the short film `For The Birds` was definitely worth getting in your seat early for.

All in all some top gags and good out-takes at the end too. animation is spiffing.

"No monsters were harmed in the making of this movie."

Brilliant movie, but "The Birds" short at the start was absolutely brilliant. I`ll buy the DVD just for that! The animation of Sullys` fur was excellent, and Pixars animation of the "Boo" character was a marked improvemnt on their previous human animations.

I hope they keep it up now that Pixar are out on their own (they had a four film deal with Disney, and are now gonna produce films under their own name!)

PS Saw Ice Age trailer a while ago. Looks pretty good

That`s always the downfall with these films, their depiction of humans looks s***, but like you say wedgey: this was a marked improvement on previous attempts.

I went to a preview last night. I thought the film was good, but it`s not up there with Toy Story or TS2. Little better then Shrek, light on story, great for kids...

Monsters doesn`t have Lasseter`s `touch` so it just didn`t overwhelm me all in departments in the same way Toy Story 2 did. It`s worth seeing though, great fur animation...nice Birds short too.

:-)

Totally agree with all thats been said - went to see it last weekend, and laughed myself hoarse! The Birds at the start is indeed absolute genius - whole cinema was in hysterics. Certainly one DVD to order as soon as its available!
