Can`t we do away with the randomness of gremlins lives?

Prufrock2 (Mostly Harmless) posted this on Monday, 10th January 2005, 00:11

Having just watched PruToo and Spud pass on, I feel that it`s somewhat unfair for gremlins` life spans to be so random. PruToo was born on the 18th December, yet passed away today, even though other gremlins born 4 days earlier live on to fight another day. To PruToo, it made all the difference, as she was likely to take top overall gremlin spot had she lived past midnight.

When you`ve worked so hard to climb up high, it sucks to lose like this.

You dont have a fixed life expectancy in real life (any of us remember what that is at the moment? ;-) ) - so I think it`s just right that there be a little randomness in how long our grems live....

I feel bad for you. It`s a bonus for me in one way as it means I get a day in top spot, but will lose that tomorrow to a gremlin that lived four days longer. If we`d have lived that long 6000 points wouldn`t have been out of the question. Still, we did benefit from excellent circumstances, and top five all time is better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick :)

Yep - the top gremlin will have outlived me by 5 days (at least), even though I currently rank higher than him in the HoF. :(

(Not blaming you, John, as you`re not responsible for how long your gremlin lives - it`s the randomness of it all)

Anyway - I`ve now taken over my son`s gremlin to see if I can get this one up. He`s now playing PrufrockReturns. I`ve still got to teach him about how to use the new skills buttons, even though I`m not entirely sure how to use them myself. PruToo won`t be coming back for a while, as she`s off sulking. :( ;)

Sorry!
It does seem a tad unfair :( I should have lost top spot to you guys but are above me in the all time league, just because I am still alive does not guarentee being displaced by me in the next few days I have a few hundred piont to gain. with 2+3 XP from each fight I dought it.

Hmm...PrufrockReturns is still quite young. However, that`s one neglected gremlin. I really can`t see PrufrockReturns coming back from there. However, I think CaptainSquarepants stands a chance, seeing as he`s at #4 in the league. Can`t see him getting high in the HoF league, though.

John, thanks for your kind words - I really don`t blame you. :) I know how hard it is for you to get points, too. In a way, it shows that concentrating on stamina and dexterity over strength still pays off, as long as you fight the low and middle rank grems - PruToo gained almost 700 points yesterday, averaging something like 16 points per fight.

I`m fairly certain that PrufrockReturns and Captain Squarepants were born around the same time, yet PrufrockReturns is showing as in its prime and CS is silver haired now. :(

EDIT: I was wrong - PrufrockReturns is 9 days younger! :o

My Gremlin Fluffy is still alive, but was also born on 18/12/04, hopefully he will have a couple of days left and make it to No1, but with death lurking around the corner I`m afraid that me might not make it.

Life is unfair, what can I say. :)

However, we are looking at buying extra days with XP. We just can`t decide how much XP should equal one extra day.

That`s a good idea - maybe one day before the death date you get a message to say your Gremlin needs urgent medical attention, so we can then choose whether to keep them alive or not.

I think the uncertainty re lifespan is an important part of the fun of it.
