SHARP DV740 - ANY SECRET MENUS?
Are there any secret menus to remove macrovision or to play multi region discs? Please e-mail to yt1sirhc[at]moc.liamtoh thanx
RE: SHARP DV740 - ANY SECRET MENUS?
No Macrovision removal yet, but there is a rather obscure way of making your 740H region-free, involving burning a line of ASCII text to a CD-R : no - really !!!)
See http://www.area450.com/hacks/regionhack.htm
What are your first impressions of the player, out of interest ?
RE: SHARP DV740 - ANY SECRET MENUS?
my impression of this player is > picture quality is excellent compared to my old samsung, my kid`s were watching a bugs life the other day and the colours were so much more vivid and the black was very sharp,
I cannot comment to much on the sound because only using it in pro-logic but using the the virtual 3d surround sound effect built in to the player gives it that little extra boost.
It`s also played every disk i`ve but in it (dvd R2&R1,vcd on a cdr disk, mp3 & a cdrw which i used to but the txt file on to make it region-free)
The only thing i would complain about is the quality of the Disc Tray it seem`s very flimsy compared to a lot of other players i`ve looked at.
Clayts: just as a matter of interest if i put an 1 on the end` instead of the 0
(eg .TSDVDREG-2001-8939912-R1) whould this make it a region 1 player only?
RE: SHARP DV740 - ANY SECRET MENUS?
Yes, we at Area 450 think that this is the case, certainly with the Sampo DVE611 firmware - cool isn`t it !
RE: SHARP DV740 - ANY SECRET MENUS?
(newbie here) I have just bought the sharp dv 740 h and haven`t even opened it yet, i want to make sure it can be hacked into multi-region first but i am not sure i understand this method...the link is to a load of gobbledegook....jimmy savile mentions TSDVDREG-2001-8939912-R1 in his post..do i burn this as a TXT file onto a cd?
Thanx for any help
RE: SHARP DV740 - ANY SECRET MENUS?
ok this is taken off the site of the good people of area 450.
1. Open up Windows Notepad or similar text editor, and type in, or copy and paste
"TSDVDREG-2001-8939912-R0" (without the quotation marks)
2. Save the file as "CREGIN.TXT" (again, without the quotation marks)
3. Burn this single file to a CD-R using ISO 9660 Mode 1 format (not Joliet).
4. Insert the CD into the DV740 - note this is not a firmware flash, merely accessing a factory setting.
5. "R0" should appear in the bottom left of the screen - if it does not you may already have a multiregion player
hope that helps m8 and it definately works, you can write the text file to a rewriteable disk so if u got it wrong the first time just erase it and try again.
RE: SHARP DV740 - ANY SECRET MENUS?
Yeah it works..took me a few goes, but that is more down to my incompetence and newbieness (is that a word..hmm) than anything else..just wanna say to everyone involved in this stuff..a big thank-you for keeping it free and keeping it real..i salute u
Ferdi1921 (a very happy bunny)
Thank our anonymous source !
Incidentally, Ferdi, is there any way I could have improved the instructions for you ? (serious question, not a mickey take : we like to keep things as simple as possible at `450)

Sorry to sound thick - but what is this in laymans terms?
Cheers
You have to ensure that you save the text file on a CD-R (or better still a CD-RW) using a burning method called ISO9660 Mode 1 : (sorry to sound patronising, but you need to read the instructions of your burning software - there`s usually some sort of "CD information" or such like where you can tick the relevant boxes - have a look at http://www.area450.com/firmware/burnfirmware.htm - there are some nice Easy CD and Nero screenshots there for reference).
I have to admit it is an obscure way to hack a player, but rest assured it works ! Sampo DVE611 owners have been using it for ages without any problem.
