Sky Digital....Picture getting worse!

skirpy (Elite) posted this on Friday, 22nd November 2002, 18:12

Hello, i have noticed recently that my Sky Digital picture seems to be getting quite bad. Before, my picture was mostly perfect and was happy with it but now all i can see is lots of digital artifacts on nearly every channel.

I have checked the Signal Test from the box and Strength and quality are sitting about 3/4 on the bars.

Is it possible to get a better signal by moving the dish or is there a booster or something that can be bought.

Cheers!

Hi

You could get a setup meter or like i use a small beeper box from i think it was turbosat for around £10 and you need a small cable to connect to the LNB then the higher pitch the sound and louder the better its setup .The only draw back is you can set up for the wrong satelite and only find out when trying to view .The device is about the size of a match box .[ NO BATTERIES NEEDED ]
I have noticed that some channels are better than others as far as the picture goes.

bye

I`ve had this problem a couple of times before - but the signal strength was very low.

In both cases it turned out to be a tree which was blocking the signal, even though it was a reasonable distance away from the dish. We had to cut the tree down!

Yes I agree I live in East Northants and have seen at least 4 Sky digital receiver systems with digital artefacts.
All systems displayed 3/4 signal strength and quality.
Systems were Grundig, and Panasonic.
I would probably think that Sky have dropped their bit rate on certain channels to allocate more bandwidth for other digital channels.
Another possibilty is interference ??? Are local cellular sites using p2p radio systems @ 10-11G H/V.
Could check with the local Radio Authority for frequency allocations in the area ?????
