S-Video or Scart? What do you reckon?
Just bought a Phillips 32PW9527(my 1st widescreen) and have it connected via my old RGB scart this TVs picture rulz.
However would S-Video improve the picture I can remember everyone (magazines etc)going on about it years ago and how good it was but what do you reckon is connecting via S-Video OR Scart THE BEST?

RGB scart is better than s-video.

Either of them. I bet you won`t notice a jot of difference.

I have my dvd player connected to a Philips tv by S-Video, and the picture quality is amazing! It`s also very handy, as it leaves the two Scart sockets free for my Sky/digibox and video - no messy adaptors needed!

Ditto on the Philips. I notice no difference between RGB and s-connection.

I have a phillips tv and I notice a big difference between RGB and S-video, RGB being far better!
Best to try and look for yourself but s-video will never beat RGB only match it so if you are happy then don`t bother!

I`ve got my DVD hooked up to my Tosh 32ZD98B by S-video....and I actually prefer the picture to the RGB scart set up !!!!
RE: S-Video or Scart? What do you reckon?
S-video seems to give a more conistent picture amongst the widest range of TV`s.
RGB can produce some bloody good pictures but some tellies aren`t so good with the RGB than others.
There isn`t really an awful lot of difference to be honest.
Whichever way you look at it, they are both infinitely better than standard composite with its jaggy lines in between contrasting colours
RE: S-Video or Scart? What do you reckon?
Ok heres a few quick questions:
How much better is the picture from the standard composite to S-video/Scart
How much does the quality of the cable actually make a difference ? ie, free plastic Scart Vs a £35 fancy Scart cable
I am just interested as I watch on a 100Hz 32" Sony widescreen on the normal Composite or cheap naff Scart and the picture to me looks pretty good... Do you think I should invest in some better cables ?
RE: S-Video or Scart? What do you reckon?
Firstly, you shouldn`t be using standard composite! This is one thing that there really is no debate over. Even with cheap cables, RGB or S-video will look much much better than composite. Look at the finer details of the picture, everything is better defined than before.
Cable quality makes less of a difference. I would probably recommend a £10-£15 scart cable instead of a cheap £3 Argos one. www.beyondhifi.com have some good deals on scarts, or you may be able to get one from Richer Sounds for around a tenner. The main quality of them is the oxygen free, shielded cable. The oxygen free part keeps it from rusting so your cable lasts longer and the shielded means that it picks up negligible interference from power cables and big interfering transformers in your telly and such (I think!)
