Philips DVD Recorder Problems!

Metaphysical (Mostly Harmless) posted this on Tuesday, 22nd April 2003, 22:57

OK it is evident that various models of Philips DVD recorders have problems with reading pre-recorded DVD`s (displaying `No Disc`). Some people have had no problems, others have had no end of hassle. If there was any major problems (as in every set was affected) with the sets I am sure it would have been written about in various magazines by now!

All in all I still like the Philips DVD recorders over the rest (and the +R/RW format), but have been wondering about other peoples experiences.

Just how many people have had a replacement Philips DVD recorder or a repaired one that is still working OK?

Hiya,

I have a Philips DVDR 880 recorder and had it since Christmas. It has not given me one single little bit of bother, not even any nasty message "No Disk" of any sort. Well pleased with it. My only question that I have tryed asking people is how do you get a widescreen recording to play back in a letter box format on a convention 4:3 TV. My computer plays them, but will not detect that they have been recorded in widescreen and of course, does not add the black bars at top and bottom, and yes, before anyone say`s, the computer is set to 4:3. So when it plays it back, it should play back in letter box mode.

Oh yes, and mine is Multi-region, which works fine and never given any bother aswell.

I would well recomened the Philips recorders and I hate to say, I do not like the DVD-R/W format. It is very incompatible and does not confrim to DVD standareds. DVD+RW does!

Hope this helps.

I have the Philips DVD890R and it is superb! G8t machine that does the lot! You can edit discs to skip adverts and choose your own picture for the chapter. Works well on other players - including the PS2!!!!

Had it for several months now. What a machine...
