I have a `pixellation` problem with my Scan DVD -2000 Player. Does anyone have any insight on this?

Hello Ronan...

It all depends on when you purchased your machine and if you have tried to upgrade the firmware.

Scan DVD players purchased before October the 26th did not have the capability of firmware upgrades.

When did you purchase your player, and what firmware did it have installed on arrival ?

How to know firmware revison .
Press the following keys on your remote

POWER ON - OPEN - SETUP - STOP - STEP – MENU

Look for the lines below
"ADV7172" or "CS4955" then numbers after..

I found installing version 2.08 firmware over version 2.04s gave me pixellation problems..

This problem is really annoying. I purchased my Scan DVD player in July 2000. What are my options? Am I screwed? I`m really p***ed off.

Ron,
Your options are:
1. Do nothing and continue to feel p***ed off and consider yourself screwed.
2. Contact Scan and speak to them about the problem. You will need to be persistent by contacting all the phone numbers on their site and/or use email/post. However, I think that if you are courteous you will find they will sort you out. YOU have to make this happen so drive it forward yourself. Don`t just make one call or send one email and expect a quick solution.

Myself and many others using this forum have been sorted out (certrainly to my full satisfaction) by Scan.

Good luck.

So is the pixellation a firmware isshoo?
I have seen a couple of reviews, and the thing that it is currently stopping me from bying the player is the reported pixellation. (albeit it in one review of a fast action sequence)

Are the laer models with newer firmware pivel-free?

I have not observed the so called pixelation problems or any other problem with the picture (with firmware 208). I consider myself picky about such issues and as someone with NTL Digital Cable TV, I know what poor digital image decoding and artifacts look like. The picture from the Scan is superb.

Try playing a R2 Disney DVD disk first - then you will see REAL problems !!!

I have only 2 R2 Disney discs - The Tigger Movie and Tarzan. However, both of these play without any problem whatsoever.

You may have a problem with the Disc`s themselves. Wharfedale came in for a lot of bad publicity over the Watchdog Gladiator story. Check this for the complete story - http://www.wharfedale.co.uk/news.htm.
