Hardware Forum
Hi,
I thought I`d pass on some information regarding the wharfedale as there seems to be some confusion about it.
The 750 and the 750s can play multi-region disks out of the box. All you do is a simple remote "hack" and away you go.
RCE disks.....
The original 750 can`t play RCE disks. But the original 750 can play RCE disks. WHAT ! Has this man gone mad. Well... no. There are 3 versions of the 750 firmware (this is not talking about the 750s). The very first version of the firmware can`t play RCE disks. This is usually characterised by the absence of the little red led on the left and no DTS logo either. The other two versions of the firmware CAN play the RCE disks.
Now... This is the good bit. If you`ve got an original (v1 firmware) machine and you want to be able to play the RCE disks, go and get Jaws Region 2. Yep, region 2. Then, your player won`t be able to play it. Phone Tesco and tell them. An engineer will come and give you a nice shiny new firmware that will enable you to play Jaws (you have to show them the disk to get the upgrade). Then it will also play RCE disks.
Although you don`t need to tell the machine which region to use, it still manages to play the RCE disks fine.
Hope this helps someone.
Nick.

RE: Wharfedale 750 Information
Hi
A friend of mine has a Wharfedale 750 and I lent him What Lies Beneath R1 but his 750 would not play it. To my knowledge this disc is not RCE so I wondered if his 750 is not set up to play all region discs. Basically, how do you set the 750 up to play all regions ? Is it a one-time set up after which the player will automatically play any disc or do you have to hack it each time want to play a disc other than an R2 ?
Any information/advise is much appreciated.
Regards
Simon
RE: Wharfedale 750 Information
To hack the wharfedale to play all discs just do the following;
1. eject the disc tray put on a region1 disc and leave open,
2. press in turn , 0,1,2,3 then press enter,
the disc tray should then go in and play the disc
to return the player to factory settings;
1. eject the disc try,
2. press in turn zoom then return and the tray should go in and the player should go to the standby mode.
When you have performed the initial hack, you do not need to do it again it is `on` all the time. Make sure you have a tv that excepts ntsc signals or you will get a black and white picture if not i think you can change the output to pal, but i`m not sure.
Hope this helps.

I also have a Warfdale 750, and it has always played region 1 disks fine, after I used the 0,1,2,3 play hack. However, I just recieved 2x dvd`s from video-now.com, (Charlie`s Angels + 6th Day) and both come up with a world map, stating "there is nothing wrong with this region 1 dvd. this dvd will only work on non-modified region 1 dvd players... etc" What`s all this about? have the film makers put an additional encoding on them?
btw - in the same batch came Red Planet, and that works fine.

If it`s under a year old - take it back to Tescos and swap it for something better. I got LG-3000E , better sound, picture and a remote an adult sized hand can use. Oh and a £30 refund cos its cheaper !
At the end of last year Warner Bros. and Columbia Tristar started to apply a new more robust regional code on their new releases (Regional Code Enhanced - RCE) to prevent them being played on non Region 1 and modified players. Charlie`s Angels and 6th Day have the new RCE code. I don`t know if they apply the new code to all their new releases or just the blockbusters. Apparantly two of the first films to have RCE were Perfect Storm and The Patriot. However, this new coding has not `outwitted` all modifications and there are hacks that apparantly get round the new enhanced code.
If you want to check whether a region 1 DVD has the RCE code before you buy it, Express.com has details of the coding. RCE discs are identified as `Regional Code 1 Enhanced`. Express.com web address is www.express.com
Hope this helps
