Need New TV any suggestions-within the realms of sanity?

Sue Davies (Elite) posted this on Tuesday, 4th January 2005, 18:09

Would ya believe it straight after Christmas and the Tv tube is going down the er...tube?
Any suggestions for a good quality flat screen that is reliable? and not too expensive as we have already spent Tv money several times over :(

Comet had Widescreen 28" Flat Screen for £200, and it`s supposed to be good?

Ok realistically under £500 given the life expectancy (the TV`s not mine ;) )and the desire for a plasma later ...oh and Sky Plus this year for the cricket
Perhaps Reviewer will send me one to test for a year...what is that winged porcine creature i see out of the window?

Lodos 21" Flats are £99 at Sainsburys, or £10 extra with built in DVD.

May not be the best around, but should last you a few years when you decide to opt for an LCD (which is where we will all end up as we want to free up space in the lounge.

You may see some larger 28" around, generally a lot of the retailers give good guarantees. House of Fraser, Allders and John Lewis seem to offer 5 yr gtees from time to time.

Shedloads of widescreen CRT packages for £500 now.
do you wanna go high street or on line?

Comet and Currys were both recently doing Panasonic 32" flatscreens for £499, but think they`re all gone (pretty sure it was DVB)

But...word of warning: £199 more would get you a 26" widescreen LCD Saisho, which to be honest, is actually pretty decent!
Obviously not top of the range, but damned decent picture. To the balance of dosh, Currys will do a 6 month interest free option as long as you have a balance over (I think) £299, so pay £400 deposit and the other £299 over the next 6 months.

Gimme some more info as I`m working tomorrow Sue, and I`ll have a look at what`s around (screen size, package/not package pref, CRT/LCD, £500 max, but preferred price?)

John Lewis have lowest (high street) price guaranteed as policy and 5 year warranties as standard on TVs.

They`re always our first-stop/recommendation for electricals.

Many Thanks for all the help so far
Jimbo I think the criteria is:
stick to a 28 inch so we can wait for a plasma/lcd later-when the chicks have left!
would it be better to get it with or without a digital receiver?
John Lewis have a Panny for 499 inc a 5 year warranty-althoug there are other online stores with cheaper prices to which you can add a warranty for 120-some are offering a free dvd player with-which we don`t need but I suppose you can`t have too many :D

Go the 14inch Lodos in the lounge at the mo but I need my specs on to see it let alone the picture ;)
