Are all "Budget" players total S.H. one T.E.?

In the last month I`ve gone through a handful of Cyberhomes (a disaster story with it`s own thread), a Pacific 1000 and Oritron 1030, both with pictures a VHS owner would be proud of, but not DVD and when in Adsa today I got a Pacific 750. Threads on here seemed to indicate it was better than the 1000. I get it home and it plays in black and white!

Or is it just me? I liked the thought of buying from Asda as you get three years guarentee. But the Pacifics are the only ones with posted hacks.

Anyone care to comment?

You gets what you pays for, I`m afraid.

Don`t expect miracles from £100 "toasters", simple as that ;-)

I`ve heard good things about the £99 Dansai 852, although I suspect Tesco have all but sold out of these little minxes.

Otherwise, £200 for a Pioneer DV444 should do the job nicely (eg http://www.homecinemaheaven.co.uk or http://www.multiregionmagic.co.uk

I`m concerned that your Pacific only plays blac and white - presumably this is post-hack, and with an R1 disc. If so, don`t blame your player, blame your TV, as it would appear to be incapable of handling NTSC, the US TV system, which R1 discs are encoded in. Try connecting via your RGB-enabled SCART if you have one on your TV, and ensure the player is outputting RGB not composite - should rectify any B & W probs.

It was black and white out of the box! I have separate thread running to see if anyone else has experienced this. My TV is NTSC compatible and did work with the Cyberhome for the few days it was operational.

Generally you do get what you pay for - I was after an operational player and it just does not seem to happen with anyting under £200.

I posted this thread to see if anyone had come across a cheap but acceptable machine.

Not wishing to antagonise, but my Cyberhome 512 has been great!
What about one of the cheaper Pioneer or Tosh 210 (multiregion) from Richer Sounds - you can then buy a 3 year warrantee for £20 (which will be refunded if not used).

I have kiiro 838d - v.good, many functions, no problems. I also have a dansai, which i think is basically a reboxed kiiro, minus dts decoding and surround. Its not bad at all, and with a decent set of cables will match more expensive players.
Tosh 110e isnt bad, but not multiregion. looks good though.
matsui 110 - a bit crap, but probably discontinued.

My pic? kiiro just shades it.

Hi

You can buy the Logix DVD3300 from Omni Power Systems for £99.88p excluding postage. However, if you do, please ensure that you ask them which updates it has onboard.

I bought a Logix 3000 from them (in fact I bought three) but did not realise, nor had I asked, that they included only version 1.34 which is non-upgradable. I did try to contact their helpline, but I think it would be easier trying to contact Mars? I am now selling mine and have bought a Kuuri 838d which so far, I am delighted with. It cost me £135:71p includung postage from `After Hours Computers.`

Iv got the Dansai 852 from Tesco, extreemly impressed with it. great pic quality, the remote hack works fine for all reigons, as well as RCE encoded players as well as a macro off funtio, DTS output, all the output sockets u could need...

we bought it with not much expetations with what it could do, and it does everything my sis` £500 player does and more (hers dont have a DTS reader or decoder or play anything but DVD videos) i dunno the make of hers.

so for £99 ur gettin a hell of a player (not to mentions Tesco`s inclusive 3 year garantee. as far as i know its a mass produced thing, which goes under variouse names in differnet places.
