IMHO i feel that DTS is better than DD, even so on my budget get-up (Scan SC2500 with Packard Bell 5.1 Speaker setup), i`ve compared the two soundtracks in films like Die Hard, Terminator 2 and The Rock and DTS has always come out on top.
Many people will argue toss with you that DTS is just loader and they believe that ppl think, Louder = Better, but i don`t believe this is true.
for £115 i would go for it, and make the decision yourself.
If you have The Rock: Criterion and Fast And Furoious, these are good DVDs with DTS that show off DTS, so try them first if u buy the amp.
well i`ve ranted on enough, but like i said i would go for it if i were you.

There is no comparison. DTS is the king!.
If you need any convincing -go and watch the fast and furious in DD 5.1 and then watch it in DTS. It may be a s***e film, but it is worth buying for the DTS score.
This is pretty much the same with most discs with both DTS AND DD -you will find DTS the superior choice nearly every time. DD 5.1 is good, but too mush emphasis is put on the big impact sound, whereas with DTS you get real depth, crispness and impact where required.
Just my opinion

The age old debate returns once more...
Having owned a posh amp for around a month (however family life is more important, so it had to go), i can heartily conclude the better your kit, the more you can appreciate the two formats.
Those with budget kit will indeed hear a noticeable difference with Fast and the Furious, the dts soundtrack has been pumped to the max with a definite over emphasis in the rear channels. On the A11SR Denon it unravels a lot more of the soundtrack, meaning it doesn`t sound as congested and LOUD as on amps lower down the price bracket. An amps ability to convey space and realism determines a lot of peoples opinions on the dd/dts debate. Most people hear the increase in volume on DTS disc`s, and automatically think it`s better - it`s basically because Dts uses less compression and therefore the sound can breathe a little more, and the bass extends that little bit deeper. However i wouldn`t agree dts is `miles better by a long shot` as some people say, sometimes it can be worse! Good Dolby Digital soundtracks that exist as the only soundtrack option on a disc sound fantastic, anyone who`s copped a load of Toy Story 2`s Dolby 5.1Ex delights will argue the toss every time. It has dynamics, power, a rock solid soundstage and most of all it just feels like a sonic landscape, not left speaker to right rear speaker in a distracting manner.
I`ve made so many comparisons with my discs, and dts is only marginally better on some discs, really good on a select few (T2, SPR, Prince of Egypt and some mor ei haven`t got space to write).
I can get just as much enjoyment from a Dolby 5.1 soundtrack with a well designed soundtrack (anything by Gary Rydstrom or Randy Thom is a lesson all need to learn from), as i can from a dts one. The cheaper the kit the better it SEEMS, the bigger, higher end peeps will just appreciate both formats more - there`s no real winner as there`s too many Dolby discs out there. It`s the surround standard adopted by every surround manufacturer, cinema, and television broadcaster across the world, it`ll never go away...
Had to get that off my chest, this debate gets too political sometimes! :-)

So I should sell my Stereo amp then?

How come T2 has a DTS soundtrack.... I thought DTS wasn`t around back then, or has the CDS soundtrack from the film been remixed to create a DTS one?... I could be wrong all together!

Gary Rydstrom remixed the T2 track with dolby digital ex and DTS more or less from scratch.
Gary Rydstrom is the god of sound design and mixing!

Well that just about explains it all!

RE Dolby Freak`s query - I`ve got DVD`s such as Close Encounters and Dune with DTS tracks and DTS certainly wasn`t around then! Presumably they must remix from the old soundtracks.
