Page 1 of Midge Ure review - Catford and a question

First the question, he did quite a few covers, one of which includes the words...

there`s no regrets, ...

I know there is a song with this in but it isn`t that, any offers?

And the review. Well Midge is still Midge - he did an acoustic set singing songs from Phil Lynott, Queen (and a few others, but not their biggest hits). Obviously the crowd, I`d have said about 250 people - the theatre was about a third full, went wild to Vienna and If I Was.

Quite entertaining but like Midge, a bit short. First time I`ve left a gig at 9.50! But he spent his time there, probably about 80 minutes, and he came across as a really man of the people type of guy. And one who ain`t bad on the guitar.

Isn`t this the Walker Bros. song `No Regrets` that provided him with his first solo hit in 1982?

Thanks. Could well be - too young to remember that one but the way he described the cover I was trying to rack my brain. First solo hit of his I really liked was All Fall Down - but he didn`t do that one.

He said he was going to do an album of covers but only got as far as doing 1 then stopped this project. Maybe he`ll reconsider

Erm, All Fall Down (urgh!) wasn`t actually a solo song, it was an Ultravox song from their fifth album U-Vox - generally known as the Dreaded Pink Thing.

I was tempted to go, living in Catford and all, but I can`t belive how much they were asking for tickets. No wonder it was only a third full.

How much were they asking? You have to bear in mind that Midge is not a huge artist, so he has to make his way somehow...

Tickets were, ahem £13 and £15, but couldn`t see what you got for the extra.

There was a support artiste.

It`s always funny when you have to stay seated at a gig though

but it was free parking in the area

That seems to be about par for the course these days for anyone even vaguely well known. Though I saw Midge Ure for free last summer at our local festy, he was pretty good.

I would have paid that to see Midge & not even blinked.

80 mins performance for his career does seem a trifle short, I hope he did`t do any "Slik" stuff or now I think of it anything from that pile of poo "The Bloodied Sword". :P

I always enjoyed his cover of Jethroe Tull`s "Living in the past", I think "If I was" started out as the "cover" project. B-sides to his solo singles in 1985 included "The man who sold the world & "The Dancer" (Bowie & Visage)

Hes a very talented guy, once you get past the "Slik" pre-conception & having known someone who served him in a shop in Honiton (when he lived at Shute) a really nice guy. ;)



If we don`t take care of the customer, maybe they will stop bugging us.

Strictly speaking, Visage`s The Dancer isn`t a cover as he was in the group for their first two albums with fellow Ultravox-er Billy Currie. I know that by The Gift tour Midge was rehearsing a hybrid of The Chieftain and The Dancer, the former an instrumental from his solo album.
