Nouvelle Vague

anyone heard these?
it`s a french band (i know, but don`t hold that against them) that does chilled covers of tunes you might like. I am loving the friday night Specials cover.. you can find eazyily downloaded tunes on hype machine, if you google that, and then search for them.
check them out. i am in no way affiliated with their PR. I would sooner eat powdered glass than do that.

Have known about them for quite a while. Most of you have probably heard 2 of their covers on T Mobile adverts, namely I melt with you and Teenage Kicks. I do enjoy their versions, but there`s sometimes a little voice in your head going "what have they done to The Undertones or The Dead Kennedys"

I didn`t know that they were French....thought the name was a homage to the era of poncy french names (Depeche Mode / Classix Nouveau etc). Once the novelty of hearing some of your fave tracks done as hotel lift background music, the joke wears a bit thin. Bit of a one trick pony....having said that, their version of `Bela Lugosi`s Dead` made me laugh aloud. Their choice of tracks is pretty inspired ....just their renditions that get a little tiresome.

...and just to confirm my grumpy old man status...when did we all start using present tense for things we liked? I keep hearing this, especially when voiced by inane DJ`s...

oops.. my apology. I forgot this was a grammar web site..

I know it is grammatically wrong as the verb `to love` is a state verb that is not used in the continuous form - ie `ing`. However, thanks to organisations like McDonalds (in this instance) etc, language changes..

get used to it.

Oooh `eck! Must have ruffled a few feathers...

....sorry...I`m ruffling it.... ;)

ps. didn`t mean to cause offence...hence the deserved self-penned `grumpy old man` tag ... :D

pps. that said, when it comes to slavishly following `McDonalds` style newspeak....I`m hatin` it. >:(

ha ha.. I am the grumpiest old man!! I am loving this winning!

ah well. who cares about language any more anyway. I was just ticked off since most forums are not the best examples of english language usage.. I post something about a french band and suddenly its "eats shoots and leaves" time..

Also, I am always getting nagged at work about my grammar and to be fair, it f***s me off.

So, don`t start a fire unless you wanna see it burn!
