recently networked 2 pcs at home.we have bt plug and play broadband 500 on one pc,
the host pc is millenium, client pc windows 98,well everything is ok,both pcs can surf net ok,but the client pc,the windows 98 wont let me into hotmail, wont let me log on to internet banking, wont even allow me to download any updatesetc.all this has to be done on the host pc,the one with the broadband modem connected to it.
i have tried checking security settings etc to no avail.is this something to do with firewalls or what?any commts would be much appreciated, cheers.

Ditch ICS and run proxy + (software is free and includes 2 user simultaneous connection licence)
html help docs are very good.
I run 3 simultaneous sessions of messenger 1 on server, 2 on remote PC`s.
(On messenger enable socks5).
After installation on main server.
On your remote pc IE set up for LAN / PROXY server enter your server ip address plus 4480 as socket.
Off you go !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
No problems with online banking (HSBC)

I am assuming your ADSL modem is USB. are you using a cross over cable to connect your client pc to the modem pc?? the best way of using broadband is to buy a router, like a linksys (usb wan, 4 port rj45 LAN) your adsl modem will plug into the WAN port then you have 4 LAN ports available for PCs. The router has a built in firewall too.

I nearly killed myself trying to connect our new Dell running XP with an older P166 running 95 and completely failed to do it. There are lots of suggestions out there but none of them worked for me. Then I realised that the whole exercise was pointless as the versions of programs like Word were not compatible and this meant that the older machine could not read files from the newer. It was obvious really if I had though it through in the first place but I suppose the lesson is to decide whether you really, really need the two machines to be connected or would it just be nice. The way things are going it would seem that you almost have to buy two new machines at the same time to be sure of a connection. The manufacturers, like Dell, don`t support networking anyway (another shock) so if you get it to work you are a lucky g*t.
