Ebay emails - or are they?
Hi,
Just thought I`d warn as many people as possible. Had an email last night from mrifnoc-wa[at]moc.yabe (which I have received perfectly legitimate emails from before) saying that there was currently an investigation into my account and that they needed to confirm my identity.
The email had a link on it which it said to click to confirm my details. The screen that opens up looks exactly like the normal ebay login. If you enter your username and password here it takes you to another screen where it requests your address and credit card details - this is where I got suspicious. I reported the email to ebay and turns out it was a spoof email (phishing) so have now changed my password.
Hope no-one has been caught out by this - I`m sure hundreds already have simply because of the realistic feel of the email and web link. If in doubt email ebay to check the validity of the site.
Don`t say I didn`t warn you ;)
Cheers
I too received this email anfd as you say it looks genuine, but I ignored it thinking that if it is real, ebay will contact me again,I heard nothing so deleted it.
I am glad you found out it was a spoof.
got a few of those myself
reported it to ebay, problem solved
cokie enjoy
Rich, I hope you have already changed your password if you entered a legitimate one to find the second screen?

The clue is in the opening line - "Dear eBay member" = spoof.
Of course, if you use Mailwasher or something similar you can preview these ringers and see exactly where you`d be clicking through to - never anything like an eBay URL :)
