Are freebie McAfee virus updates available?

frogger (Competent) posted this on Thursday, 27th October 2005, 10:26

I`ve had my McAfee anti-virus software installed from new for 12 months now and when I start up my PC the message "Virus Definitions Expired!" is displayed. Obviously the company now want to charge me for updates etc., but is there a way that I can download them for free, as someone I know who has far more PC knowledge than myself reckons that you can.

I may have got confused with what they meant, they may have been talking about Norton or some other program, or they may have been talking complete bull.
Any one know for sure?

Cheers

You can ahem browse the site for the corporate updates, from memory it doesn`t ask for authentication. Not that I suggest you try downloading them & clicking on the dat files to install. ;)

I quite like the Helpdesk people in a benevolent (as opposed to malevolent) way as they do some valuable work in preventing us being inundated by every halfwit who can work a phone.

Cheers for that `heads up` Rass ;)

Think I`ll have to get a mate who knows more about PCs to assist me in attempting that, as I haven`t a clue what you`re on about, ha ha ...
