Can I password protect a folder in xp?
Is there a way of encrypting a folder with a password on xp? I shall be working from home for the next 2 weeks and will have a lot of sensitive work info/electronic learning materials that I don`t want anyone to tamper with, especially prying little hands ;) . Is there such an option in xp or should I use a download (free will be better)?
Any help will be appreciated.
:D

I dont think Windows will let you do it by default only files, but if it is only for a short time you can probably download program and just use the 30day trial or something.

Do you use NTFS? If so, you can just change the security permissions on the folder so that only your user account has access to it.

I could do with this to protect my porn ;-)

Companies that have p**sed me off so much that I will never use them again and I hope you dont either....
Jacks Fish & Chips of Cambridge ridiculously overpriced and overpackaged chips. £1.20 for a stupidly small portion of chips - they need to go up north for a good lesson in fish and chips
Alloy Bodies of Manchester - The Grand Daddy & Benchmark for shockingly poor customer service.
Capital Bank Leasing who are part of [B]BOS & are f**ing useless & struggle to action the smallest request but are fantastically efficient at taking money out of my account
[B]Abbey National Absolutely diabolical service - how hard is it to change £60 of coins into notes????
....more coming soon no doubt.....

You could use WinZip or 7-Zip to zip your folder. You can then set a password when you create your zip file. This does mean you will need to unzip before you start work, and remember to zip it back when you have finished.
Maybe just as easy to back up your work to a usb pen drive and keep that with you.

TrueCrypt is what you want (and it`s free now, I believe)

missed this one, but windows xp has it`s own password protection on
folders which are created as compressed.
simply create a compressed folder, then drag the file(s) into it, then open up
windows explorer, then open the folder, then click on new>add password.
problem is, if some f***er is annoyed by this they can delete the folder :/
