We have put some £4.95 titles on our home page today. If these prove to be popular we intend to extend the list over the next few days.If this proves not to be the case we would be interested to hear what the forum thinks are the best promotions leaving aside industry wide campaigns and cut price blockbuster titles. Is there a market for ex-rental region 2 around 4 weeks after release and months ahead of the Retail release date ????All product would be clean and fully guaranteed

I feel that there would be a strong market for ex-rental titles if they were at the right price. www.movietrak.com have good price`s on ex-rental titles and have a good, reliable service.

When it comes to promotions i like to see something different. Not your ordinary run of the mill 2 for £20 offers like the one present at virgin megastores. I would rather buy one title at a cheaper price. Choices Direct always seem to have good promotions on individual titles and are also very reliable.

i cant find them.

and yes to the ex rental. as long as they are not the vanilla ones. I hired signs out the other day and all you could do was change the sub titles!

Nick THEY ARE DEFINITELY THERE ON THE BOTTOM RIGHT HAND SIDE OF THE HOME PAGE.
UNFORTUNATELY RENTAL PRODUCT IS LARGELY VANILLA AND AS A WHOLESALER WE GET HUNDREDS OF THEM.i ESTIMATE THAT PRICE WOULD BE AROUND £10 FOR MAJOR RELEASES.WOULD THIS BE OF INTEREST OR WOULD MEMBERS PREFER TO WAIT FOR THE RETAIL RELEASE AND ALL THE EXTRA FEATURES ?

I`m in favour of these £4.95 titles - this is definitely something other retailers aren`t doing, so it gets my thumbs up.

Ex-rental releases are also a good move in my opinion, although you may want to compare your prices with Movietrak, who I think are cheaper than £10 per disc.

It`s well worth exploiting your position in the market, and I`m sure people would like the option to buy rental releases. Could you maybe run a trial period first of a selected few titles, and see what the take up rate is ?

FWIW I would be very interested in "just" the film versions. Guarantee at £10:00 for major release seems reasonable to me. (Incl` P & P natch!)
Good luck.

I am definetely for more 4.95 pounds titles. However, you should try (if possible) to add more titles like Perfect Storm and Proof of Life because most of the Warner titles you offer have been already available for some time at choice direct (for a slightly more expensive price that is 6 pounds) .

Regarding, ex-rentals, if you can beat movie trak with lower prices, I will certainly go for it.

Although I think there is some mileage in ex-rentals, several critera would have to be met for them to generate justifiable sales volume.
Assuming the quality is a given, the time from release to availability would be be critical, as the saleability will drop off quickly when they leave the rental charts.
Equally the problems you have experienced with dispatch would need streamlining and probably some investment in systems would be required.
With nearly everyone now having Multi Region machines and the internet supplying region 1and 3 pricing and earlier availability it brings the gap between them and your region 2 ex-rentals right down.
This I suspect leaves a price point of £ 10.00 a shade optimistic, although it might be practical to do a sliding time/price offer, but only you know your margins.
A few other points 1. A lot of people will wait and pay an extra £ 3/4 for the virgin disc with extra features.. 2. Only a percentage of your returns will be sellable anyway.
Everything I have mentioned are points to ponder and are hopefully helpful and constructive.
