TECHTRONICS

xboy (Harmless) posted this on Thursday, 10th April 2003, 21:57

I purchased my dvd player off the net with techtronics at the beginning of september last year and until now praised them up to the highest heavens. I told friends to go to them but wont do any more. My JVC TH A5R wont play certain dts dvd`s such as back to the future trilogy and recently the Guru, techtronics are happy to look at the player but will charge me £23.50 to post it back to them!! An abrupt lady on the phone said it`s in the terms and conditions which i must`ve overlooked. One just assumes that if you go to a shop to purchase something and it has a fault you can get it back to them to be looked at free of charge. Curry`s, Comet to name a few will send a driver to your door and take it away free of charge, AND LEAVE A LOAN!!! I thought a guarantee meant that a company assures you that product will work if it doesn`t then they are responsible and will put it right, but in this case at the expense to the customer, don`t know how they get away with it. They also want the original packaging, like anyone keeps all the boxes to the household stuff they own so now I`m frightened of sending it back incase it gets damaged and they accuse me of not packaging it properly. I wish I had investigated the company and will seek advice off Trading Standards, this is the 3rd time a company has conned me and it wont happen again. DO NOT TRADE WITH TECHTRONICS is my advice.

First of all I have no view on Techtronics.

Most Gaurantees are RTB (return to base). It is your responsibility to get it back to the shop. Hopfully most retailers would help you out on this.

If someone brings back a product without a box and I have to send it away for repair what do you sugest I send it in? A plaggy bag? Once again I will try my best to help. But befor I send it you will have to sign to say that it will not be our fault if it gets damaged in transett.

All the best,

The 42%er.

thank you for your reply 42%er. No I don`t suggest you send anything in "plaggy bags" as I said I am afraid that if the product gets damaged they will say I haven`t used the "original packaging" which does not mean I wont be using a box, of course I will be, but it wont be the original box. It is very inconvenient posting out my dvd player to be fixed paying a carriage charge for the privelege of waiting in all day for someone to collect it when I could`ve purchased it locally and then taken it back to the shop. I suggest traders online should be footing the cost for returns, high street shops are obviously superior especially when alot of people want to examine the goods prior to purchase. I think if online shopping is to be a success they should eat humble pie if their product goes wrong and pay for the carriage and not charge it at the expense of the consumer.

Sorry xboy. Didn`t mean to be flippent.

Unfortunatly I doubt you will get both silly price and top service. Online retailers tend to work on absolout minimum margins. This means that any time a product goes wrong the profit has gone.

High street retailers tend to be a bit more expencive (not allways) but hopfully they will look after you beter.

You pays your money and takes your chance. Best price is not allways best value.

Good look with getting your problem sorted.

All the best,

The 42%er.

Ps: please keep all boxes. Flaten them down, they can be rebuilt.

Bought my Technics DVD A10 off them about 4 months ago.

Bit slow but got an extremely good DVD player for the money i paid. It has given me no trouble at all (touch wood)

I would still recommend Techtronics although unfortunately everyone gets it wrong every now and then.

I`m glad you haven`t had any bother yet Neil but as you can tell I am raging with techtronics. I`m sure you will be when you have to fork out another £23.50 for posting your dvd player back if it breaks down, waiting in all day for someone to collect it when you could`ve whipped it down the town or had someone collect it at your door for free. I have read alot of complaints about them taking money off your credit card and taking months to refund it and people have gone to trading standards about them.

Good Luck

personally, they are idiots.

i bought a dvd player from them which was region free - forked out like £350 for it and it arrives and it is only region 1. so i mail it back to them - FOUR weeks and nothing - so i call them and they say yeah sorry it is sold as region 1 you can either keep it or have your money back. so i am like what about the fact that i paid you four weeks ago and for that time i have had no dvd player. they were like tuff.

so blah and blah and they said they would refund me the money for posting it back to them. did they? its been three/four years and nothing yet. i aint holdin my breath. lame ass bitches.
