RE: Playing VCDs on a Matsui DVD player
Hi
There is a hack to get the matsui to play VCDs , I have done this to my matsui and it works fine.
Insert a MUSIC cd in to the player and press
Stop, Menu, 9, 1-All, Open
a menu will appear sayin Enable VCD 1-YES/2-NO
press 1
Vcds will now play

RE: Can I use an Active Sub with 5.1 outputs?
You should be able to plug the active sub into the sub output on the back of the dvd player that has onboard decoding/5.1 output.

RE: Total DVD Budget Shoot out!
I noticed that in the Matsui review they said it did not have RGB output and that it did not play VCD`s.
It does output RGB and there is hack that allows it to play VCD`s (for some reason VCD playback is disabled for the uk market).
I e-mail the magazine with this info.
They replied and said thanks for the VCD hack and that they made a mistake in quoting that it does not have RGB output and were sorry.
I was very impressed with the speed they replied to my e-mail and that the e-mail was very friendly.
Once I e-mailed What Hifi and got no response.
RE: Which is better? 5.1outputs or optical?
Hi
I think it really boils down to what is the best part in the system , if the dvd player is better than the amp (eg Sony dvd player and £200 amp) and is has 5.1 output then use the 5.1 output on the player .
But if the amp is better than the player (in most cases) use optical output and let the amp do the decoding.
With the setup you describe I would use the amp for decoding , you will need to use optical/amp decoding for DTS as , if my memory serves, that player only decodes Dolby digital and not DTS
As far as I am aware both 5.1 output and digital output are both as good as each other for sound , but its what machine has the better decoding.
Also digital leads take up less space than 5.1 leads which = less mess.
Hope this helps

RE: SIMPLE JAWS QUESTION!
I had this problem with my R1 dts version.
If all versions are the same:
To find these extras look for a little arrow on the bottom of the extras screen , this should take you to the list of extras.
hope this helps

RE: Matsui DVD 110
Hi
What this usally means is that there is nothing wrong with the matsui , but your tv is not NTSC compatible.
In other words the tv can not properly accept the NTSC signal from the american disc. So the picture is black and white.
(NTSC is the signal used in the US ,in Europe we use PAL)
You may be able to get a converter so the picture turns back to colour, but the converters do not work with all tv`s.
Hope this is of help

Dvd Warehouse Problems
Hi
A week ago I ordered a DTS plaque and two DTS demo discs from Dvd Warehouse.
The website said that item was in stock and delivery was first class post.
I have still not received this item. I have e-mailed them twice and I Have had no response.
I usally use play247 their delivery time is 3 days from Jersey.
Has anyone else had a slow delivery from dvd warehouse.
Any comments would be great .

RE: Sherwood 6095RDS, what connectors?
Hi
To set this up all you would need(providing you have speaker cable) is the digital connector between the dvd player and the amp. Optical or coaxial.
For best picture quality if your player has RGB out connect the player to the tv with a good quality scart cable.
If your tv has audio out connect this to the amp to get dolby prologic from surround sound tv programs.
Hope this helps
James
RE: Surround sound on a pro logic tv.dvd surround poser?
Hi
The scart lead should pass the correct sound information for you to get prologic on your tv.
The two phono audio conectors would give surround sound information, if you tv has inputs for them. These are usally used for conections to prologic amps.
With your current tv you would not use the Digital conectors as they are for use with Dolby Digital and DTS decoding amps/receivers.
Hope this helps
James
RE: help please bush 2000
Hi
It may be that your tv is not compatible with the NTSC signals coming from the R1 discs.
Some tv`s that are not NTSC compatible show R1 discs in black and white.
What conection are you using between player and tv ?
You may need a signal converter to get the colour, but this requires your tv to be Pal 60Hz compatible.
Have you tried playing R1 discs on any other tv`s , assuming you have access to another tv?
RE: MATSUI DVD110 black and white problems
It sounds like it is your tv thats the problem.
Does it say anything in your tv manual about NTSC signals ?
Is your tv PAL 60HZ compatible ?
You can get a NTSC to PAL converter from Keene electronics at
www.keene.co.uk.

RE: MATSUI DVD110 black and white problems
Hi
If this is the only R1 disc you have tried it would sound like the problem is with your TV not being fully NTSC compatible.
Some times if TVs are not 100% percent NTSC compatible you get a black a white picture.
Do you have RGB input ?
If this is your TV you can get a signal converter for 50 pounds which will put colour into the picture.
My Matsui plays American dvds fine , but my tv is fully NTSC compatible.
Hope this helps.
RE: What Amp?? Expert advice needed
Technics do an amp called SA-DX930 this has on board DD and DTS decoding and has an output of 100w per channel (or so they say).
I have one and I am very pleased with mine.
You can pick one up for under 250 pounds.
Note it only has Optical digital input.
As long as your player has optical output this too will work with your set up.
I have wharfedale Valdus 100 fronts and they work great with this amp.
RE: Pioneer 525 DVD and Sherwood 8095 Amp, DTS??
Yes you can.
As long as your player has DTS bit-streaming/output and your amp has a DTS decoder built in.
When you say wharfedale surround kit do you mean a surround speaker set. If you do,that should be ok with that amp.
RE: experience needed
Hi
I have a Matsui dvd-110 and I am very pleased with mine.
You can make it multi-regional by doing one simple hand set operation.
Mine plays both R1 and R2 fine.
Every disc I have throw at it has played fine.
I believe it to be a truly under-rated player.
RE: Sleepy hollow R2 lip synch problems
I have a matsui dvd110 and I rented sleepy hollow .
I noticed a very small lip synch problem with some chapters. It was not so bad that the film was unwatchable but it looked like it does when a film has been re-dubbed in its original language on tv.
The first disc I have played that has done this.
RE: Cheapest dvd player..
Hi
I have seen Matsui DVD110`s for 149.99 pounds in some Currys stores.
This to is multi region hack-able.
I have one and I am very pleased with mine.
RE: DTS vs AC3 Opinions
I have Two DTS dvd`s Jaws and Apollo 13 (Both R1).
I believe that DTS does sound better ,the sound seems more crisp.
But to be fair Dolby Digital is not far behind and is very good in its own way.
Most DTS disk have been low on extras , not that I am worried as most dvd extras I only watch once. But some People may be put off by the lack of Extras. But Jaws DTS has quite a few extra`s for a DTS disk nearly as many as the DD version.
Let me Put it this way, if there is two versions of a dvd one DD and one DTS. If the film is most Important get the DTS version, if you like extras get the DD version.
