Lethal W 4 - double sided disc, any other DVD`s like this ?

vern (Competent) posted this on Friday, 10th November 2000, 10:26

I bought the LW4 DVD the other day, it`s a real pain ejecting the disc to look at the other features like the cut scenes from the previous LW films.

Just wanted to know if there were other DVD`s like this to be aware of and also do people think this will be a standard feature in the future or will there be two disc`s in your party pack ?!! like MIB special ed ?, which by the way I think is pretty cool !

Just wanted to also say that I am completely jealous of my mate who has bought a DTS Digitherate setup, amp/ speakers etc, it`s only when you hear this for the first time that you realise what you are missing, sure the quality of the picture is enough for some people to buy/ watch DVD`s but having the sound blasting out as well makes you wonder why you go to cinema`s any more !! do you reakon Cinema`s are on the way out ??

Consider yourself fortunate that you don`t have to flip the disc halfway through the bleedin` film !

Eg Goodfellas, Jackie Brown.

And there was me thinking that a DVD could hold, what was it, SEVEN times more information than a CD....

Know what you mean. Flippers are a right pain in the proverbials. The only good kind are those on fish, scuba divers and the Dolphin.

I have recently bought "The Rock" and found when i got home it is a double sider and has to be flipped over half way through, which is a pain, seeing there`s not much in the way of features surely they could of fitted it on one side. So if this really chokes your chain avoid this film like the plague.

I bought "Soldier" the other day for £7.50 and it has Widescreen on one side and regular 4:3 on the other.

Yup, this is quite common. Another one is to stick the movie on one side and the featues on the other (eg Exorcist R2)...

Do these geezers think we need reminding what it`s like turning a record, cassette or, get this, a V2000 videotape over....

I repeat my earlier note : a DVD holds SEVEN times more info than a CD. So, `Heat` is 163 minutes long...by the same argument as Lethal Weapon 4, GoodFellas, Jackie Brown, etc, etc, why is that not a flipper then ?

What a load of old bollox these software manufacturers come up with

The reason is that most discs now are dual layer. This means there is effectively two sides of information on one. the laser refocuses itself when the first layer comes to an end and reads the second hence you can have double the information on one side. You can sometimes tell when the disc changes layer because there is often a split second pause.

My advice is check on the back of the box to avoid flippers. It will say either dual layer format or two sided format.
