Not so much on flights.
But I found www.worldweb.com were pretty unbeatable for assessing hotels, the facilities, what was close by for entertainment, the rooms costs & facilities (ex tax) & the actual booking of the rooms (some paid for in advance, some reservation only for the same hotel), last year across US & Canada.
It also allows you to enter the dates once only & peruse the hotels, without constant re-inputing the dates
I ig ig ig ig ig ig ignore the phone the whole day through
To surf surf surf surf surf surf surf the net is what I really like to do
It ain`t no trick to get rich quick
If you contract out your outsourcing
Its all mine! Its all mine! Its all mine! Its all mine!
And a million users whine!

We delete user`s data by the score
A thousand profiles, sometimes more
But we don`t care why we wipe `em for

In 2001 we did San Francisco - Cambria - Los Angeles. The drive down the coast road was lovely, until we hit heavy fog and had to turn back and head inland. San Francisco is beautiful, and Cambria was fantastic, but LA is a s***e hole. Las Vegas is alright for a short stay, but I wouldn`t stay any longer than 3 days

In October 2003 we went for our honeymoon to California, flew to LA and then rented a car and drove down to a place outside San Diego called La Jolla. Which is only 15 mins away from the city and is an ideal base. Stayed there for a week and then went back to LA to fly to SF for a week.
Didn`t really see much of LA but I would recommend our hotel the Crowne Plaza LAX.
Good Rates, Clean and Safe and they also sell Krispy Kreme donuts in the lobby.
San Diego is a fantastic place to go to and I would recommend going to the Zoo. La Jolla is a beautiful place and I would love to go back. It`s a quiet seaside town along the Pacific, we stayed at the Scripps Inn which is on the ocean front.
San Francisco is very exciting and full of life, we did a citytour on the first day from Fishermans Wharf it is very touristy but it`s great to get your bearings for the city.
Going to Alcatraz at night is amazing, but make sure you book your tickets online as you will have to queue for ages to buy them when your there. Also make sure you where something warm, i`d read all the reports saying how cold it was but I thought they were exagerating ,believe me they are not, it`s bloody freezing on a night!

Don`t get me wrong - i`m a cheap git!
But the Youth Hostel in Santa Monica next to the British Pub was more like a 4 star hotel - had nice facilities, a good crowd and cost nothing. It is also one step from the beach and shopping. Great way to see L.A while you`re staying - an ex-pat with his own blacked out A-Team Van will give you a tour of all the spots in L.A you`re not supposed to go to - South Central, Skid Row as well as the usual tourist nonsense.
Vegas is as cheap as chips - not the ones you play with though - I`d recommend staying in one of the smaller hotels behind the strip - again it costs next to nothing to stay there and the food is rediculously cheap ($1.20 for a full breakfast/OJ and Coffee).
There are some beeUtiful B&Bs on the bay in San Fran - look them up on-line and book ahead. Again another cheap option.
Still this was a few years ago, when I was penniless.
Now I`m debt up-to-my-eyeballs but 5 star luxury all the way.
As Ever,

Well if you`re looking for flights and/or hotels a good place to start is www.expedia.co.uk you can compare prices and order online. As an alternative try www.cheapflights.co.uk but thats strictly for flights only. I`ve been to L.A a couple of times and had no problems using both.
