Robert Farnon RIP

Alan Titherington (Reviewer) posted this on Tuesday, 26th April 2005, 21:14

I`m sure this chap is unknown to most, but I thought I`d mention him, as he died on Saturday. Was one of the most popular composers and arrangers around, but did relatively little for TV and films and in fact appeared not to write anything since 1981, although the TV series` `Colditz`, `The Prisoner` and `The Champions`, and the film `Horatio Hornblower` (a fine score!) should help him in gaining the required immortality.

He also did some very fine orchestral compendiums of famous film composers on record/CD.

Dear Mister Titherington, are you always a bit aloof,I have been trying to talk to you and twice you have ignored my post. with no respond. Are you doing this on purpose?IF not is there a way we could chat pleasantly like two adults? If not...I hope you do. Ella

Don`t worry Ella - he`s a violinist. String players always think they are better than everyone else. It`s nothing personal. Just ignore him ;)

Hey Alan. Had an interview last week and had it confirmed on Wednesday - I am going to be the Musical Director of our school from September. Doesn`t mean I`m Head of Department - I`m in charge of all extra-curricular/concerts/shows/tours, etc :D :D

Back to topic, though. It is a shame about Mr Farnon - may he carry on composing heavenly music. Don`t know much of his stuff intimately TBH and hadn`t realised he hadn`t done anything for public consumption for 25 years.

Cheers

Hello Ella!...which posts were these? I would never ignore you deliberately!!..although I admit that I can be, at times, a bit of a loof, but this country needs loofs. As far as I can see you have only posted two things here, and one of them is what I`m replying to now. I`m confused.

And well done on the promotion Si! ...it shows that even a trombonist can achieve something if they really try :p

Extra curricular activities? You know what you want mate. A steel band!

I was a member of the Pantastics (what a name) at littleover community school and we interpreted music through the beauty of calypso all over the country.

..sni gger.....tromboner..........

Using your vernacular...

The Pantastics `sucked`

Panache `kicked your ass`

They were a different Pantastics. They copied our quality name.

Our pantastics would still have battered Panache in a soundclash though. We were brilliant.

Or to use your vernacular `wi wah reet braw`.
