ID for Job Application - Proof That I Am Entitled To Work In This Country?
Just got interviews for two jobs but for both i need proof that i am entitled to work in this country. The fact i was born here, ive got an NI number, pay tax and have had numerous jobs doesn`t seem to count.
This can be photo Id e.g. Passport (Haven`t ever had one and no intention of paying for one either) or driving licence (Got the old green one with no photo on it)
Or a full birth certificate?
Why is a birth certificate acceptable, surely anyone can buy a copy and has to be the least secure proof of any. In one of my previous jobs we would not accept them as proof of age so why are they now acceptible as proof of entitlement to work here?

That sounds a bit like guilty till proven innocent.
I`d be inclined to inquire who wants the proof and why as it sounds like it may be government prompted to further the appeal of the ID card scheme ie: voluntary but you`ll find it more difficult without one.
Snaps
I used to be with it, but then they changed what `it` was.
Now, what I`m with isn`t it, and what`s `it` seems weird and scary

On the other hand this is quite possibly the political fallout of the `they`re all over here taking our jobs` arguement...

Its because your employer can be fined for employing someone whom doesnt have a work visa or is an EU citizen.

It`s not anything to do with money laundering processes and that aswell, anything involved with financial stuff?

I think the comment about it being to avoid the employer getting fined for employing a "foreign body" is spot on here
RE the driving licence - I dont suppose you have changed address since you had the green paper version have you??
If so - unless the rules have changed - you can get a photo one for no charge other than the Post Office admin fee (was £4 at one point) on the basis that you have changed address
If this is the case for you, I suggest you do do it because it used to be a £1k fine (i think) for not updating the record!!!

We had to do this at my work as we employ a lot of foreigners and everyone had to be checked for eligibility.
They can`t just ask for the IDs of those that look foreign...

I don`t think a photo driving licence is acceptable.
The list of acceptable ID comes from the Home Office and I had to go and pay for a copy of my birth certificate a couple of years ago when it turned out that I wouldn`t otherwise be employable. (My parents had just taken the `short-form` certificate all those years ago rather than a full version)
This has now been law since about 2002, I think, but obviously not all employers are aware of it.

My car licence address is still current on the old green one. I am moving house soon so will have to change to the new type. They only last ten years don`t they so no doubt more income for the government.
My full birth certificate was ok for ID.
