100hz is scanned at twice the rate of a 50 hz tv therefore giving an improved picture. I believe it to be overrated unless you`re always looking at the screen from an acute angle. Wait for plasma for a few years!
Other must haves are good connections- at least 2 scarts and an s-video. I`ve got a JVC tv which is very good (28").
Hope this helps.
I will second that JVC make excellent widescreen sets. The picture quality is superb.
i have an LG 32" widescreen flat on 100htz you can get it for 681 with free del from scottish hydro electric and it`s awesome!
yes i would go for 100htz it also has 2 scarts and s-video hope this help`s :)
I have to say I don`t like the 100htz picture. My relative has a Panasonic or a Phillips (cant remember which) one which he`s got over in Hong Kong. TV signal was fine, but on DVD`s it just looked plain weird, as if everything was moving faster than it should do. Maybe it was just my eyes, but as someone who`s thinking of upgrading to a large widescreen soon, I`ll be sticking with the lower scanning models.
The best advice is to go to an AV shop and look at your options. My local dealer specializes in Panasonic stuff, and I must admit it is very good. Also the new Philips 100hz stuff is excellent.
My friend has a 100hz Philips TV and he says the biggest difference he found is that it is less tiring to watch for prolongued periods. Not owning one myself, I can not comment. Obviously it is difficult to gauge how TV affects your eyes, but I have no doubt there is something in what my friend says.
Personally I love rear-projection, but if I was to go for 100hz CRT I wouldn`t compromise on quality and/or features. They are quite pricey. Otherwise go for the best 50hz TV you can afford, with all the features.
The other problem you have is the age-old problem of that there will always be a better offering just aroud the corner.....
Hope that helps.
