Why are the Older Philips DVD recorders more popular
Hi there
Might seem like astrange question, but I have been looking at Philips DVD Recorders on ebay, and it seems to me that the older models are more popular and people are more likly to pay a higher amount for these.
I am talking about I have seen lots of DVDR890 or DVDR880, and these are going to quite high prices compaired to the DVDR70 or even the brand new DVDR610, which seem to be going at much lower prices.
Do the old older models have better features or something?
Also does anyone know the difference between the DVDR880 and the DVDR890
Many thanks

can`t help with the question tbh, But if you`re thinking of buying a phillips recorder i`d do a search on these forums before commiting yourself, i think you may change you`re mind about buying one :( i`d go for a cheapie supermarket jobie if i where you, or if you wanna spend a little more for a vastly more reliable machine, get a panasonic or pioneer recorder.
hope this helps.

My manager used to work for Curry`s and said he used to book every Philips DVD recorder in for repair as soon as he sold them as they were returned so often!
I think the new models like the 880 range are better. My mates got one and it been working fine.

The 880/890 are hopeless. They are the earliest of the Philips recorders and are only fit for the tip.The only reason people may be going for them is because they are unaware what a pile of crap they are buying.

It may just be the fact they are still working? ;)
If Mac users are "more intelligent than the average computer user," why do they need an operating system designed for complete idiots?

Dunno the answer to your main question but for what it`s worth, the 890 has DV in, the 880 doesn`t.

I believe they sell well to Caravan parks as they make an excelent step into the caravan.

MY DVDR880 is working just fine after 2 repairs.
I would rather keep it than buy a new one as I have heard the newer Philips are not as good sound quality, as I also use mine as the main CD player.
The DVDR890 is virtually the same but has a 6hr record mode and DVI input. which is not worth paying extra for unless you are into editing camcorder tapes.
I think bidders on Ebay just get carried away and don`t realise what the value of items they are bidding for.
A woman sold a 10 year old toasted cheese sandwich on Ebay for $28,000 ( not a typing error)
