I did my degree in Leeds, and both places you mention, Headingley in particular, are studentville central. Burley also falls into that category. Getting house contents insurance in LS6 (Headingley) used to be so expensive that it was barely worth doing, not sure if it`s gotten any better in the past few years - I doubt it. :/ You might be better off looking in the Roundhay area.

These are things I`d definitely investigate further if I was looking in Leeds.

Having said that, it`s a great city to live in - very vibrant and buzzing these days. You should enjoy yourself there!

My cousin is based in Leeds and rents a flat over-looking Millennium Square in the city centre (think that`s what it`s called) - he says it`s brilliant there, crawling distance from all the bars.

A basic rule of thumb would be to go for the city centre if you can afford it, otherwise go for somewhere OUTSIDE and to the North of the ring road. Anywhere inside or south would be a no-go area.

Moortown. I lived there for 3 years. Nice leafy quiet suburban area!

S` good advice from Toby Tyke. If you win the lottery yo could always go to Alwoodley!
Have you had a look at commuting from outside? There`s some pretty good bus / rail links from a lot of the villages / towns outside of the city its self.
Roundhay I think was metioned and that`s a good place. Not too far from the Fford Greene, you won`t need the bargain forums then, anything you need for the price of a "hit"!
Good luck...Flyer...

thanks for the thoughts guys. from what you`ve said, it seems like i am generally looking in the right places. all my dvds are back in scotland....so not too worried about insurance at the moment :D i thought about one of those bachelor pads in town. in fact i am in one at the moment as my company has put me up in the complex on whitehall road for a month. don`t really fancy commuting as i have to start at 7.30am. as i just moved here i am looking to meet new people so i guess i am after a shared place. well, i`m off to check out a couple of places in headingley today. but if you here of any rooms going or good places to find rentals.....

I`d be tempted to go for north Leeds if you can afford it. Chapel Allerton is a happening place, more young professional than student I`d say. Plenty of pubs & restaurants within walking distance. Have to agree with PorlCooper, I`m from Moortown myself :)

My friend lives in Pugsley and says it`s really nice. I have no idea what it is or where it is but i thought i`d share that with you!

I think Neiliboy means Pudsey.

If you want to be in the thick of things, Headingly is good. Loads of sw***y pads available in the city centre as well at a price.

If you want something more sedate but still commutable look further afield, Garforth and the surrounding towns for example.
