I think it`s quite a good idea, certainly something I`ve never seen before, but then I`m not in touch with the art world so wouldn`t know if it`s been done before.

Had anyone here ever heard of Alison Lapper before this sculpture was announced? I`m all for a monument marking the remarkable achievements of a disabled person (Professor Stephen Hawking, for example, would be a worthy candidate) but I really don`t see how a disabled artist deserves the honour of being commemorated within a stone`s throw of a truly great disabled man like Lord Admiral Nelson.

I think the sculpture is quite good - I certainly wouldn`t regard it in any way as modern, it seems very traditional to me.

The Venus Di Milo doesn`t have arms.

Maybe we shouldn`t let disabled, deformed or just plain ugly people outside without some sort of burkha...!

Surely succeeding in life and raising a child despite enormous adversity is something admirable?

I thought the disabled, pregnant women statue was ok and the other (bird cage) one was toss.

Not quite sure why this is politically correct though. It seems to be a label that`s easy to apply to something one either doesn`t like or doesn`t agree with.
